Dark Arts Department

The continued injuries the club keeps sustaining has to be a concern. It is only reasonable for fans to ask questions regarding who are the people responsible for fitness and what are their roles. A look at Wednesday website gives no indication ast to the name of any first team staff outside of Jos and his coaching assistants. The lack of information is not good as it does lead to more speculation. We did provide a comprehensive guide at one point but after famous medical department clearout we seem to have adopted a policy of not mnaming the fitness staff.

Ifyou look at Academy staff their is a comprehensive list including a lead physio who is Ashley Fickling.

I have looked at other clubs web sites and it apears the more progressive clubs employ a Preventive Injury coach and also a Recouperative Injury coach. i assume the former keeps things ticking along and gets players to do series of stretches exerciseswhich prevent strains and tears. The second looks after players who are injured and brings the back to full fitness.

We appear to have had several players with hamstring injuries. I am aware that FF, Matias and Winnall all currently have this problem and Joao had couple of games out early in season with this complaint. I am not sure at what point a particular injury occurs for it to become more than a coincidence. I do think we areat the stage where the question arewe doing the right training exercises needs to be asked.

Because of lack of information we are not aware of what specialists we have and who does what.

With regard recovery from injury Lee and Winaall have picked up other injuries on return from major knocks.Presumably a recovery specialist would try to prevent these. But Bannan,Fletcher and Lees have recovered well and Bannan and Fletcher have played some of best football since being at Hillsborough.

Hutchinson had a severe problem when he signed for us and do not think fair to judge his time out. In Abdi I think we were sold a dud whose engine/legs (whatever you call it) had gone. In hindsight the Watford fans were shocked at his departure and he had been in first team so it was clear something was strange about him being sold. I think a lot of his injuries have been a blind to cover the player and clubs embarrassment at buying a player for a substantial sum and placing on a lucrative 3 year contract who they are not able to play. The other long term absentee is Hooper who apparently had Groin/Hip problem. There has been a lack of information surrounding injury and when you consider he has been out  10 months its suprising.

The club have sent Hooper and Hutchinson to Spain to receive treatment and think Van Aken and FF went abroad too. We are therefore prepared to spend money on treatment and there is a commitment to get things right.

The lack of information does not help the situation and will only lead to more questions partciularly if injuries of a similar type keep recurring. I would ask the club to reveal details of medical and fitness department to help shed light on the situation.

I understand your concerns, or should say all our concerns regarding the injury problem.

But if the club did say John Smith is the clubs physio, Joe Bloggs is the preventative injury coach, Billy Brown is the Recouperative injury coach.

We wouldn't be any wiser regarding their qualifications, methods, levels of competency etc. and I can't see the club giving out those details.

I agree it is frustrating but I can't really see any way we can get these reassurances.

I think an immediate improvement would be to say what the specific injury is with each of the many walking wounded.

Take Lee for example.

If his injury is the hip again then we must all be extremeley worried (just look at Andy Murray and his hip problem).

If not the there is a good reason to hope for a return.

You may also ask what on earth is Hoopers' problem?

Totally agree, this injury situation is beyond a joke.

We're supposed to be promotion or bust this season, according to our chairman, can't spend any money to improve, and the decent players we currently have left are constantly unavailable for selection!

These are supposed to be young(ish) professional athletes, earning ridiculous amounts of money and they can't stay fit during a season in this day and age?

What kind of fitness set-up do we have at S6?

There is obviously something very wrong with it.

You'd think that, following the unusually high amount of injuries last season, this would be top priority, since we aren't allowed to spend money.

Plus all the disappearing players - Abdi,Westwood,Boyd, Jones, Van Aken etc etc...........

:Chansiri: What the F is going on?????

And to think they sacked Paul Smith and co, who actually had excellent reputations (or so it seems).  Certainly Alan Smith had a fantastic record for keeping players fit and recovering from injury and it would seem likely that Paul Smith was mentored by his father.

And now we seems to have people who just can't keep players fit.  So baffling!

I think a name would be a starting point. They would have worked somewhere previously or at least qualified somewhere. It is unlikely you would have qualified person with no previous history. if a person we have recruited has no irecord andnone can be found that would be cause for concern. It is rare if you could not find information on a qualified person in any profession.

I'm sure players would be happy to have their private medical details plastered all over for everyone to pour over.

They have said what the injuries are.

Lee has an issue with his knee and Hooper has a groin problem.

Gary Hooper has had a groin injury for 12 months even on an NHS waiting list this would have been sorted in 3 months. Either the club don't have a clue about player fitness and getting injured players rehabilitated or the smoke and mirrors going on.

We have players not playing who are fit on silly wages sat in the stands watching the game, we have other players who may be injured but the manager does not know, we have other players that are always due back in two weeks then we have yet more players who are injured but with strange injuries like a groin injury 4-6 weeks weeks for an average injury if its worse they have an operation what we seem to do is monitor them for 6-8 weeks then decide they need an operation, they then come back and get reinjured with the same problem.

All the time there is no communication what so ever what is going on, so what happens is people make up their own version or post any theories they can find.

Plain and simple the club need to start being straight with the fans, if Westwood is not allowed to play because of bonuses, salary then tells us but this crap about him being the worse keeper at the club is becoming embarrassing.

You must have excellent NHS where you live, my Mrs was on a waiting list for 3 months to be referred to a specialist who then put her on a 9 month waiting list for a routine knee operation.

10 months later ......still waiting.
