DJMortimer
Without knowing precisely why Westwood has been made third choice (if that), it's not possible to comment on the wisdom of such a decision. If one or more of the worst rumours are true (and I've no more idea than the next guy if they are) then I can fully understand the logic. In fact, reversing the decision now would send out the very worst signal to the squad just as we seem to be developing some discipline and camaraderie. You would have loved the rumour in the Toilets at half time DJ...me and 3 other fellow urinators burst out laughing when an old bloke shouted... FOrestieri isn't injured, Winnall is fit to play, but Jos has sent them away to make friends"... vulva
The interesting bit will be if one of the keepers, Dawson or Wildsmith gets injured, and then who they put on the bench. I think it’s fairly obvious why Westwood isn’t playing, almost understandable. The laughable bit is Jos and the club actually trying to convince the fanbase it’s for football reasons.

I've no idea if any of the rumours about Westwood are true, but surely he has not been dropped to third string (at best) solely for performance reasons? What is his fault is this growing affliction of trying to punch crosses that could easily be caught. His playing the ball around at the back im not going to blame him for as much as it angers me as he's obviously being told to do so by his manager. Otley Owl
I might be wrong with this, but surely the keeper situation is based on long term thinking, as a result of our financial situation. Play and develop our 2 young keepers, who both have potential to be quality. Westwood wasn't transferred, or loaned, which surely would have been part of this plan, for whatever reason. I'd be surprised if he doesn't go in January. But then again, I was surprised he didn't go in the last window. I can back this strategy, as we could end up with a decent young keeper, experiencing a full season at Championship level, which is going to have a fair amount of highs and lows. But don't get me wrong, it's a bold move - I pretty much rate Westwood as the best keeper I've seen following Wednesday. The effect a calm, assured, experienced, quality goalkeeper can have on a defence is huge. But we've gone down this route, there's no backing out of it, and imo fans should back Dawson and Wildsmith to the hilt, and boost their confidence as much as possible. As others have said, we didn't lose tonight because of the keeper.

Lees needed an absolute dressing down multiple times tonight, normally it’s the keeper being vocal to his defence. Never going to happen but I’d play Westwood on Tuesday if I was the gaffer. But your not the gaffer and comments like this are just a small part of the reason why

kendoddsdadsdogsdead
I will say it again, as I have done many times before, Dawson does not inspire confidence, from his team mates, and from those of us in the stands. He is dreadful on crosses, does not command his area, and flaps a lot at the most basic of hadling. His kicking, whilst showing an improvement, is still just average. Before the 'well look what's playing in front of him' brigade start, I would just say this. Dawson continues to make mistakes, each and every game, and his shortcomings are being easily exposed. Goalkeepers need to organise those in front of him, Dawson does not do that. Is he the best goalkeepers at the club ? In Jos's eyes he is, which is a worrying state of affairs if the manager rates him better than Wildsmith and Westwood.
Johnny Rico
Although Dawson did nothing wrong "AT ALL" for either goal, he did not do very much throughout the game to inspire me with confidence. As an reasonable ex-non league defender I know how much confidence a whole side can get from a really solid commanding goalkeeper who controls, not just his box, but the entire back line and beyond. Both Boro goals could have been averted by simple gentle paced back passes. Do the players lack a little bit of confidence in their keeper?? Yes they do !!! trevdi9
westwood needs to play the defence need a strong experienced voice behind them especially Lees as he hasn't had a decent game yet ,Dawson is in too early for me and does not command enough behind his defence but whatever the reason is that Jos has decided to drop Westwood we will never know , but that said you do not lose your experience in one off season unless of course as an outfield player your legs have gone, but keepers come into their prime when in their 25/ 30's but no matter, what I do know is all through my football life I have been shown that you play your strongest side apart from injuries and sadly I do not think we do ,and sadly that may count against us being up there with the best
legendaryswan
Westwood made us look mugs in the home leg of last seasons derby, went the wrong way for flecks free kick and got done at his near post by a 32 year old from scunthorpe once hed twisted van acken,KW isnt gordon banks, hes 34,with a dodgy knee and back trouble which is why we got him from sunderland. Hes been a great servant in his time, but his times up,we cant afford sunderland wages unless we ALL want yet another embargo NEXT season and further hamper the manager. Dawsons done little wrong, his sats are strong,we all need to move on,
