Middlesbrough were just stronger than us

Recommended Posts

Agree, Boro are a much better team than us with much better quality players in every department, hence why we was always going to be up against it tonight, people seem to forgot that there's another team on the pitch and there's always gunna be better teams we come up against...

but

I also get it with the lacklustre rubbish performance too, we could do so much better than a desperate barrage at the end when the damage has been done, we have no consistency whatsoever and never seem able to string together 2 decent halves let alone two decent performances/games, been that way for years with the halves.

I thought we were not very good tonight but it's not the end of the world.

Agree Boro played well and just looked solid. We didn’t really hurt them although their goals were caused by basic centre back errors from Thorniley - letting the ball bounce - and Lees.

Palmer, Pelupessy, Reach and Fletcher were our only decent players tonight. Rest had poor games for their ability.

Such basic errors all game. Misplaced passes and lapses in concentration. You can't do that against teams like Boro.

Thought Thornley did well up until the first goal. They are young and are likely to make mistakes so you really don't need Lees c**king up minutes later to give us a mountain to climb.

Really worried this playing out from the back will land us in hot water against the grunters.

Same type of team we always lose against. Massive fookers. Batth came on and looks average size! And always niggling and coming through the back and appearing to know the ref will allow it. Arms and legs everywhere.

Mind, talping it around at the back cost us again also.

They put 4 in midfield in the second half and I’m not sure where our midfield disappeared to. Oh well ... the day we start beating teams like them is the day we will be in with a shout for promotion.

We showed exactly what we are.

A work in progress, limited going forward , scared in possession. Right back is still clearly a problem area. No real width or pace. A mid table side.

I'll get behind JL, purely cos he's here to stay, but not on performances.

Pulis worked us out before a ball was kicked. The manager carries the can for that performance.

We invite pressure faffing about with it at the back, very predictable we are the creators of our own downfall playing this way.

it needs to change as we are gifting opportunities to the opponents, until it does change we are going nowhere.

Dont think it will change though,  it’s obviously how Jos wants them to try and retain possession, but we don’t hav3 the players that have the technical ability to play out from the back.

Don't like it but I would just go long against the grunts,  they don't like it when teams are up and at them, get them on the back foot and they'll make mistakes. It's when you sit back and allow them time on the ball that they punish you.

Agree completely. Similar game to Leeds except we got away with that one (& they were better than boro). There are teams who will let you play it out from the back and that’s where we’ve got our points this season, but we need a plan B for the teams that don’t. Against teams like this we simply don’t have the time and space to play the way we want. Too slow, ponderous, no energy, not enough control of the ball, quite simply, if we play this way against dem blades they will muder us!

The word that describes us is naive.

We have a naive manager and on the pitch even our experienced players like Bannan and Lees are too naive.

You expect from young uns but senior pros should be doing better.

Unless the manager stops asking them to do things they can’t do, and realises that you can only do so much with young kids then it will continue to be a struggle.

They're an ex-PL parachute club, and along with the Stokes and WBAs should be going for automatic.

'Boro have better players than Leeds or Sheffield United, though.

Leeds, in terms of playing staff at least, are no better than they were under Evo or Hecky.

United without Pep would be a mid-table side.

'Boro are a different kettle of fish, and have a top manager to boot.

In any case, our record against 'Boro isn't great.

This result was about as predictable as the loss against Karanka's Forest.

All of our players needed their A game to compete - did not happen

Better to come when injured players are back

UTO

There's only Fessi, Lee and Hooper out though isn't there? Doubt their inclusion would have changed last night's result

I’m not sure whether that’s as good as boro are or can be, but thought they looked pretty ordinary last night. Restricted on the whole to set pieces and long throws.

Us on the other hand, we played well within ourselves. 4-5 players especially were poor. Basic stuff too, from front to back. Admittedly some of our underperformed are young, or even out of position but then you throw in to mix Jaoa & Lees who are seasoned pros that really looked off it.

Jaoa the commentator summed up well, every time he receives it, he looks to do something fancy; twisting, turning and ultimately losing it after miscontroling or falling over. rather than just getting it under control and holding it up, wrong boots or not his performance was well beneath his standards.

Then Lees, what really frustrates me is on the odd occasion he acts decisive and steps out with ball or plays quick pass he looks awesome, but on other occasions he plays back into trouble, ponders Or loses possession. Now weirder still you have Hector and Thornely that appear good on ball that are largely ignored when passing it out. It’s like we pick out our worst player on ball and pass to him over and over, last year we did exactly the same with Fox??

Rant over, we again made a good team look ordinary, just we made ourselves oook worse!
