Premier league 2

We don't need a Premier league 2. Waht we need is a more equitable spread of the money generated by football and TV rights. More money filtered down the pyramid and more money spent at grass roots level by the FA. More money spent on coaches and training facilities for young players and more accessible ways into coaching. Make football coaching and running these centres a viable job. Make football a community asset. Use the vast amount of cash to make some benefit for many instead of all benefit for a few. Bring in rules that level the playing field a bit for clubs, getting rid of or allowing equitable spending to, parachute payments would be a start.

Root and branch reform needed simultaneously, give us a sport we can be proud of.

Agree 100% but the Premier clubs have all the power what's in it for them to spread the money around?  In the short and medium term probably nothing and very few companies look to the long term.

Totally agree. The only problem is,  have the FA got the will to strip or reduce the PL of its autonomy? It was this lack of action/foresight that created the current cesspit in the first place. Unfortunately I don't see any changes any time soon.

Parachute payments simply reward failure.

A well run club can gain promotion, spend hardly any cash while making money hand over fist, go down take the cash, and with a reasonable outlay have a great chance of doing the same again the following year.

The chances of this get greater as FFP bites clubs like Wednesday, Forest , Leeds etc, and parachute payments get larger and larger.

2 thirds of the Premier league teams simply plan to survive, or nick a cup because the top 6 don't take them seriously until the latter stages .

Clubs like burnley for instance find the Europa competition a distraction they could well do without, because it threatens their survival in the Premiership, to a load of clubs simply staying in it and finishing 4th bottom is a reason for celebration...i mean put that on yer honours board...

Interestingly the Dutch "giants" Ajax, PSV and Feyonoord have agreed to give there European money away to be spread across the other teams in there division to improve the standard of the league and reduce the financial burden on the smaller clubs.

Big clubs trying to benefit the sport within there country rather than stockpile wealth and killing competition. No chance of that happening here. The smaller premier clubs do not want to risk falling off the gravy train and if they do they want a massive advantage financially to get back.

Can you imagine Chelsea, City or ManU doing this? :tango:

The quality of games on Championship this year has been excellent. Seen quite a few and some tremendous games, exciting superb goals and quite a bit of incident. have been superior to some of Premier League games in terms of viewer satisfaction.

A more balanced sum would seem appropriate as lots of games are beamed abroad and watched by many viewers.

Think Leeds owner is right about money balance needs to be addressed.

Something certainly needs to change as at the moment the Championship is an unbalanced mix from an income point of view.

Of course this guy knows plenty about broadcasting deals given his company recently beat Sky to get a 3 year deal for La Liga.

I don’t know the length of the current deal between Football League and Sky but surely the first point is that Sky are getting Championship football on the cheap and they should have to pay more for it.

The Football League, which is separate from the Premier League should be negotiating a far better deal for the product not hanging onto the coat tails of the Premier League and Sky and get some competition in the bidding rather than being happy to play second fiddle all the time.

I would say the Championship is actually very key to Sky at the moment. They have lost a lot of football bids over the last few years, and we should make them pay a lot more to keep the Championship.

I’m definitely in favour of the championship getting more money and stop the parachute payments.

I suppose the potential danger is if there’s a premier league 2, would it reduce the excitement and interest in getting to the premier league 1? Right now we all look to get into the playoffs as we chase that golden goose, but if that just becomes a fatter turkey than the one we’ve got, will people lose interest

As said before, just a matter of time, getting to the stage where their are some big clubs in this league and must be realising that Leeds, Villa, us, blades etc are a bigger draw than the huge South coast derby Brighton v Bournemouth etc.

Can't come soon enough as the PL brand will continue to grow.

Can't we just get rid of Premier League 1?

Can't we just get rid of Leeds.

Their bucket of self entitlement overfloweth.

We're all in this league for a reason, there'll always be clubs with a bigger fan base , smaller crowds...etc.

Some of us accept it and get on with it. But not Precious Leeds.

Brilliant idea in principle as the Championship deserves some sort of financial parity but where does it end?

Would clubs relegated from the Championship receive parachute payments? If they did would this be fair on the teams in league 1? Would this also then lead to a situation where teams in league 1 are overspending chasing the dream that is Premier league 2?

Cynically I'd suggest that an owner of a Championship club isn't really concerned about making football fairer, just making his own club richer.

Parachute payments should be scrapped, it's just reward for failure. A team hasn't been good enough to stay in the top flight, so they are rewarded to the sum of 90m over 3 years (it might be more now?). The idea was so these clubs wouldn't go bust paying Premier League wages. Well there's a way to stop that, the Premier League/FA/Championship need to come together and agree all contracts are subjected to a reduction if a club is relegated. Then parachute payments wouldn't be needed. This will be an easy way to get rid of unwanted players too, just look at Jack Rodwell who was on 43k a week until Sunderland got rid of him in preseason.

What do teams like us and Leeds do? Spend a bit of cash over a short about of time and hope it pays off. If it doesn't, we get penalised by FFP. It's so wrong. FFP needs to be scrapped also.

A few years ago, the then Bolton Chairman suggested ending relegation from the Premier League. He was voted down. I actually would quite like to see it happen. The gulf between the football league and the Premiership is ridiculous, created by TV money alone. The knock on effect is spiralling wages, transfer fees and supporter costs. The Championship's stock is currently at it's highest, arguably. Entertainment wise, football wise, competition wise, it's far more entertaining than the Premier League.

If the Football League was brave enough, it could push it through. The top 6 of the Prem would balk, the rest of the teams would panic, some would want to stay, some would want to leave. fizz the ones that wanted to stay, leave them to their soulless football and eventual European Leagues. Spread the money between the rest, investing in grass roots, create a proper competition, negotiate with Uefa for entry to European competition, get clubs to agree to ticket price caps for home and away fans, and crack on.

The club that finishes bottom of the premiership receives a guaranteed £100 million.....the championship teams don’t receive a tenth of that.

something needs to change and frankly I don’t give a flying f*cik if they call it the Daffy Duck league 12.

The way the footballing governing bodies in this country plan and run the game remind me of one of my mates sports themed birthday parties.

They were organised by his parents and each game was specifically chosen and designed by them to give him an excellent chance of winning everything.

They were the FA, he was one of the big 6 and I was Sheffield Wednesday.

It was poo then and it's still poo now.

Two hats
