dunsbyowl
Anyone there for this night of European football at Hillsborough - would love to hear if someone was and could recall the game & in particular the atmosphere? I imagine pretty special? Top marks if you were at this and our last against Kaiserslauten! (InterToto dosen't count !) #OnThisDay in 1961 - the famous Wednesday club of Sheffield brought European football to the City of #Sheffield for the 1st time beating #OlympiqueLyons 5-2 on the night & 7-6 on aggregate. Goals John Fantham 2, Colin Dobson, Billy Griffin & Tom McAnearney @winghalf6 #SWFC
Ibbo48
Yes was there. Just can’t remember much about it unfortunately. All I can remember was the novelty of seeing foreign players at Hillsborough. In those days you just expected to beat anybody that turned up. Fantham was my first hero. What a player.

Incidentally, dunsby, talking of my hero Fantham, have you got the iconic picture of an airborne JF scoring at Leppings Lane end in your extensive archive? I had it on my bedroom wall and I’d love to see it again.

Ibbo48
Not that one, though I had that one as well. Its a close up of just him. He’s just shot with his right foot and he’s totally airborne. I think he was wearing the shirt with stripes with white sleeves ?

Sheffnet
I was there - aged 12. Seem to remember how great it was to overturn the aggregate score and come out winning.
Oliver Cromwell
My memory of the match was that we had lost the first leg 4-2 and they scored first at Hillsborough, think score went 0-1, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2 giving them the aggregate lead, then 4-2, 5-2. One of the most exciting matches I've seen.

Last game of the 2002 / 2003 season when we were already relegated and won 7-2? That may be beyone me I am afraid :-)
