World cup bid 2030

Recommended Posts

With the UK and Ireland looking set to bid for the 2030 World Cup and encouraged to do so by FIFA, it looks likely we will win. With this is mind my question is do you think we would see Hillsborough selected again or might it get overlooked this time by the stain?

Will we even be at Hillsborough in 2030?

Apologies if in the wrong section, feel free to move mods.

Thoughts?

Why?

It was chosen for the 2018 failed bid. What's changed?

It was going to be renovated for the bid and obviously that didn't happen. If the World Cup is to be shared across the British Isles far fewer English stadia will be needed. There's no chance Hillsborough would make the grade...

In all fairness Hillsborough shouldn't be hosting World Cup football anymore. It's nowhere near good enough. The only reason we'd stand a chance is the lack of competition from other clubs in Yorkshire. I assume these days a newer stadium with better facilities would be favoured over ours even if it's a few thousand smaller.

Bigger World Cup though - moving to 48 teams.  Needs more stadiums.

If its a 4 national tournament they will pick the 4 national stadiums, Old Trafford, West Hams Oympic stadium, Arsenal Emirates Stadium and possible St James Park.

Hillsborough is too old, the history and also unsafe currently to even have more than 32,000 in, add to this its in Sheffield and we have the most incompetent council in the country we don't have a chance.

16 stadiums would be chosen, so Sheffield is bound to get games. Likely 12 in England and the rest elsewhere.

What people seem to not realise is that cities can only host one stadium, with the exception of one (London), special dispensation would be sort for more multiple hosts.

Wembley

Emirates/New WHL

Old Trafford

Anfield

St James

Stadium of Light

Villa Park

Elland Road

Hillsborough

King Power
St Mary's

Ashton Gate

Murrayfield (Scotland)

Hampden (Scotland)

Millennium (Wales)

Croke Park (Ireland)

Would be my picks. Could all change in 12 years though.
