We thought that about FF and look what's happened there, Waste of money, save that, and ensure the young uns stay here. REBUILD !!!! If we can get him cheap and on cheap wages, then would be good for the youngsters like Nielson, Thornily, O'Grady, Lee to learn off, brings bags of experience and a leader /organiser on the pitch, also doesn't he play lcb even though he's right footed, so maybe help lees out like when he had loovens alongside him. pazowl55
Don't underestimate what some may be willing to give to play for the club you support. Cahill has plenty of money if he fancies coming here he will.

Shearer turned down United twice, he said it wasn't about the money for him it was about the football and the second time it was the want to play for his hometown team, so maybe?? swfcjack27
Astronomical wages means it’s probably a non starter but he would be the best centre half in the division for sure. Terry showed at Villa class is permanent despite his age. Would like to see it his experience would be huge for players like Thorniley to benefit from. A Loovens type is important in any squad and we’ve not got that player currently.

I'm sure the 'it costs too much threads' wouldnt mind £39 per game becoming £49 or season tickets going up by £230 to subsidise Gary's home coming....And lets say he'd do it for 50% thats still $5 per game extra per fan... simple math makes this a non starter! I don’t think anyone’s suggesting we spend 100k or even 50k on this. They’re just dreaming of getting a very good player very cheap. That’s just as unrealistic really but no point getting het up about it.

SiJ
Not a chance, unless he's willing to take an absolute monster paycut. We just came out of a transfer embargo a month ago, so one would like to think we have the common sense to not sign 32/33-year-olds on crazy salaries...something about those who don't learn from history etc.
fpowl
If the price is right it would be a fitting match to see out his career would help our young players especially around the back but I think this is an easy link to make considering his connections and lazy journalism with our finances it’s unrealistic but id Love captain Cahill to lead us into the premier league and keep us there

Beauchief Owl
Can't see this link being justified. We're on the brink of FFP and linked to a player on astronomical wages who has no re-sale value. No thanks!
Groundhopping Owl
It's an easy story for them to print because he supports us. There just seem a lot of obstacles to it - even if Chelsea let him go cheap, affording his wages while keeping within FFP would be very tricky. Plus there'd surely be a queue of Prem teams in front of us.

A loan would mean he'd still get his full pay check. We'd maybe pay 5k of his 100k a week. No obligation for him to stay unless he wins us promotion, then he can have a 2 year deal and we'd be in a position to offer him 75k a week or whatever he wants. camffiti
This is obviously just lazy journalism / fake news Unless we can get a few £mil for Van Aken in January & Chelsea let Cahill go on a free BELIEVE
room0035
£130,000 a week, 33 years old what could possible go wrong. Ha ha ha Where do there get this crap from. Gary Cahill is from Sheffield. Maybe we are after Jamie Vardy, Kyle Walker, Kyle Naughton etc they are all from Sheffield too.
