The claret and blues have been tracking Cahill since the summer window with the centre-back’s contract at Stamford Bridge set to expire at the end of this season. Despite fans’ eagerness to see Cahill - who left the club for Bolton Wanderers in 2008 - back at Villa Park, Villa have reportedly pulled the plug on the deal. The Telegraph report Chelsea’s preference to offload Cahill permanently in January but Villa wouldn’t be willing to do that or cover the cost of his £110,000 per week wages for a loan deal. Personally would like to see him at Wednesday if we have funds. His speed is what we need to force opposition back. Heard David Jones could be on his way in New Year.
