Nameing a stand after....

Recommended Posts

My suggestions are one of the stands should be named after World Cup Winning squad member Ron Springett; I'd also have one named after the remarkable Fred Spiksley arguably one of the games first stars and possibly our greatest ever player, a Charles Clegg stand or an The Wednesday Cricket Club stand would make sense to indicate the club's formative years, and a Arthur Dickinson stand for being our longest serving and most successful manager.

Andrew Wilson is our greatest ever player isn't he?

  • Captained us to successive title wins and won the FA Cup
  • Scored 199 top flight goals for us
  • Was top scorer in 6 successive seasons
  • Still our all time record appearance maker

There really should be a tribute to him somewhere in the stadium.

Newcastle have the Sir John Hall stand.

Watford have the sir Elton John stand

Man U have the Fergie stand

.....

So, if we were going to honour a Wednesday great, who is the most deserving... And which stand should they have.

(They have to be related to the club obviously.... Cough pigs!!!).

Sgt Wilko?

We used to have Presto,  how about Aldi? A hybrid between a supermarket and a player resembling Lord Lucan

Personally wouldn't name stands after anybody.

But if I had to choose I would go with...

Clegg

Then if choosing others, in no particular order...

Wilson

Dooley

Taylor

Waddle

Mark Hooper (Just because he was my mum's godfather)
