Even if only half of them make it at this level it will do wonders for the club. Never had such a promising set of young players in my memory.

Add Wildsmith to that too

I think Jos will use them wisely, they’re still young kids that are developing, he will know when to leave them in and when to leave them out.

From what I saw of Preston against Millwall, he was excellent, he didn’t make the squad today

That’s the sign of a manager that knows what he’s doing, he sees the players most days, he’ll be in constant contact with the coaches

In Jos I trust

Preston went off injured against Millwall

Im not knocking Bannan here, im just agreeing with the chap who said he wanted to see Penny have a few. The argument that he only did it for the juniors is irrelevant otherwise whats the point in having an academy.

The argument he should have a few when we’re doing really well on them is also irrelevant.

Im sure he’ll get his chance

Does anyone know Penney's contract situation?

If he isn't signed up long term, he bloody should be.

The club should know how important this is after Hirst/Clare

Deal up next summer, I think.

Bannan will give him a go at some point I’m sure of it

Without knowing the ins and outs of the dressing room in detail, I noticed Bannan consciously making an effort to reassure Penney regularly during the match today. He did the same against the Mackems in regards to the younger players. For me, this is either something I've missed before or what seems to be a development in regard to Bannan's status in the squad.

Bannan seems to be relishing the position of 'senior' player in terms of leading others (in addition to his obvious abilities with the ball at this feet that we've seen consistently for 3 years). It's encouraging to see him taking this leadership role. To be truthful, I hadn't really envisaged Bannan be as a 'captain' or 'leader' in terms of his character, but I couldn't see anyone but him stepping up to support in Lees from the currently playing staff to lead Penney and the team in future fixtures.

Why the hell were we weeing about at left back with Penney at the club? Why did we sign Fox when we had this kid in the youth team? Yes there are flaws in his game but I'd rather give a player with his attributes,(technique and a bit of pace) a chance before spending seven hundred grand on poo like Fox.

I was very impressed with Penney.  Stopped crosses coming into the box, had the pace to cover Centre backs and got forward on occasions and put the ball into the danger area.  If we had just signed the kid we would all be marvelling at him but it's even better that we've developed him.

Bannan has already created numerous efforts on goal via his free-kicks, and seeing as he is left footed and with more seniority, then Bannan will continue to do so.

However Penny can score direct from free kicks and has a proven record doing so.

Not sure what 'seniority' has to do with it. If Penney is capable of playing a more dangerous ball into the box, then the coaching staff ought to be assigning the duty to him.

Maybe an idea though to mix things up on occasions, good teams do that to catch the opposition out. If you've more than one dead ball specialist in the side utilise this. Bazzas shooting on goal is generally very poor, but his delivery into the box is good, so for me why not let penny have a crack if it's in a position where a direct effort on goal is realistic, yet let Bazza take the wider or deeper one's.

Last night I watched the Liverpool game, and reapeatedly saw Trent Alexander-Arnold taking free kicks, over the likes of Ballon d'Or candidate Mo Salah, Brazil starting striker Firmino, 50m signing Naby Keita, Premier Leauge winner James Milner, etc. Why? Because he's damn good at them. So if Penney is as good as they say he is, then Bannan needs to let him take a few, and Jos needs to insist on this. Its all part of his development. Can you imagine if Ryan Giggs and Denis Irwin had never let Beckham take a few free kicks when he burst into the 1st team?

Exactly what a left back is for!

We’ve been dire at preventing crosses for years
