Jos's cryptic message & the response against Millwall

Recommended Posts

Well Jos has had a lot of criticism and snipers out for him and taking cheap shots, when once again the experienced players were the ones letting the side down. His cryptic message about knowing what is wrong and keeping it between the players was answered last night, in my opinion. Players who were prepared to give 100% were played and those who have been giving less than they should looked as if they were playing for their lives last night.

How can Jos be as bad as some say when he can cobble a team together like last night's line-up and against a very fast hard working team like Millwall who had not lost a game?

after all the fuss I watched the press conference back. Didn't think there was anything in that statement. Just seemed to be saying he/they know what they need to do better.

Team spirit looked fine last night. Plenty of encouragement for the youngsters from the more experienced players.

Our confidence is brittle, there's no doubt about that. Only positive results can put that right- that's why it's so important to back last night up with a win on Saturday.

If you take the performance aside, forgetting result it was hugely encouraging.

We on the whole restricted a good Millwall side to long balls and counter attacks.

We had (until last 20 minutes) 65% possession, finished on 59%

We had forwards tracking back to their own corner flags

We had forwards chasing dead balls, running channels, harrying their players.

We had players, such as Pelupessy and Palmer who are usually seen as week links, raising their games and acting as senior pros in a youthful side

We passed, moved, showed for the ball so much better. No one shyed away, Palmer and Penney were always an option

We (on the whole) dealt with two big, ‘old fashioned’ strikers and the countless long balls into them.

In my opinion we could have lost and I’d still have had been delighted at the performance! But we won so I’m over the moon. A few more wins and the brittleness we saw in last 20 mins will disappear too!

There's going to be times that mistakes from the young uns will cost us points but as long as they show that bravery on the ball that will do for me. It also gave the senior players a wake up CAL...If you don't do the business you're out

In post match interview yesterday Jos is asked ‘is this team selection a message to the squad’ he replies: ‘absolutely! Players are picked purely on merit.’

as I’d said in earlier today posts, I think having the kids in there not only helps our pace/energy but also makes players around them stand up and be counted, players like Joey and Palmer looked completely different. They were commanding and confident and it’s great to see. Also, players who in past have been throwing mini hissy fits even as play goes on when passes missed etc yesterday were hugely encouraging, high fiving, thumbs up more than a Rhodes highlight trail!

Great to see!!

We also didnt play 3 at the back. A system we are not suited to, nor have the players to execute. Let's hope he has realised this..

Think the language barrier makes him seem cryptic when he isnt.

There are top many on here specialise in looking for something when there is nothing to look for.

Team have little confidence and the volatility and nastiness shown on here bys some does nothing to help.

A bit harsh. I only said I thought English not being his first language made him seem a bit cryptic when he isn't.

It's all about expectations for me. We're in a transition year and are blooding our development squad. They will make mistakes, but they'll also show promise. So long as we're out of the danger zone it's all fine - we'll have a younger, fresher, more valuable squad.

Older players = little or no sell-on value.

Young players = potential sell-on value.

As fans, we need to keep an appropriate level of pressure on JL, the players & DC - but not berate them so hard every time they have a poor performance. Bad games will happen when you're building a new team. What I like about JL is that he does seem to learn by his mistakes - which is something I can't hand on hear say for CC.

We need to be realistic, pay each and every opposition due respect, encourage great play and enjoy the ups and downs.

Was not meant to have a go at you I agreed with that comment and marked it so. Just used your quote to get message across to some clots who moan about mascots warm up.

You are harsh critic at times but you are consistent and generally can see point in what you say. There are others on here who make absolutely daft statements and have little if any idea about football or how life in general rolls.

Think Jos decent bloke who has rolled his sleeves up and geting on with job. He has landed in the mire (not his making) and is trying everything to get out of it. Different formations all players (well almost) getting a chance and finding out which role suits them best. It is difficult to gauge players in training or U/23games but watching recent games I have much better understanding who is capable of what and so do many of our fans.

Think he has also relaised some players can not play 3 games in a week and have difficulty backing up performances. This usually apply to young players but we have some senior ones who fall into this category. So when changes announced for next match expect some idiots to start moaning.

He certainly got through to players as far more effort put into last nights game by players. For example Forestieri and Nuhiu showed more endeavour and effort in last 20 than they showed in entire game at Brentford.
