penney let the winger get past him when he shouldn't have late on but that apart he did ok …..preston misplaced a few passes but worked hard and didn't look out of place . …...anyone who didn't know wouldn't have thought they were 2 lads starting for the 1st time ….promising debuts .

Why the frig has Penney not played before? He looked a class act in a position we have struggled with.

I also really like Thorniley; never lets us down. One thing these kids give us is legs. We might just have stumbled across a batch of really good kids. Just hope the off field stuff doesn't see it end in the same way as Grady, Quinn, Bromby, Haslam, Morrison etc who were alll very good at that age as well.

We could have done with these kids in Carlos's first season. Throwing one in now and again, into a good side. Furthermore, they would have then been match ready last season, when we really needed them. And it would have stopped us throwing bonkers money at the duffers we have.

A full 12 months ago. Mind you, I have played the game, and I’m hardly ever wrong about anything.

Observations on transfer matters...

1)It might be useful to bring in some defensive replacements now, else get the young lads warmed up instead of sitting in the shadows. Penney to left back, Pudil to CB? Is one option. The other is to get one of our development squad CBs prepared for a start.

2)There's no dishonour in trying to move on players who have only been here a relatively short period of time, if they're clearly not good enough.

3)A review of our player recruitment strategy wouldn't go amiss. All businesses have periodical reviews to see how operations may be improved.

Work rate from both these lads were terrific, Preston caused problems up top.

Penney was class. Strong, fast and no nonsense. Many a time last night he pelted in like a freight train on a Millwall attacker and booted the ball to safety. First choice left back

Very pleased to see both get a chance and also perform really well. Both start Saturday after tonight.

Fully agreed, but let’s remember young ins have to be given time and will make mistakes some times, we have got to stay off their backs when that happens, and expect them to be taken out of the team you can’t overplay them . Well done both though , nice to see us producing first y team players at this level, it’s been some time since we have,

a positive for the future when there has been so much gloom

Penney got caught out of position a couple of times but that should hopefully come with coaching and experience.

How refreshing is it to see a LB who’s comfortable on the ball, gets stuck in and provides an option going forward.

After we went 1 up they all settled down and played with more confidence. The crowd need to help them out early doors.

Penney was decent and makes sense to give a young lad a chance. Preston looked off the pace and wasn’t ready for the first team.

Looked off the pace ?  Towards the end maybe ... he gave us a bit of pace and energy and isn’t afraid to get forward and put balls in the box

Used the wrong phrase, off the pace not accurate. Just lacking the quality at times with his distribution. Hopefully he gains from the experience anyway.

Thought Penney had a great game,  looks very comfortable on the ball with some neat footwork at times and got properly stuck in with good tackles. In a flat back four

which we must stick with now,  the whole defence looked a lot better.  Penney has the shirt to lose now in my eyes. We haven't had a natural left back like him for a while.

Preston will get better,  decent debut looked lively- lets hope they get a decent run of games now.

Penney looks to have benefitted from his loan last season.

I think that that we should try and send some of the other youth players out on loan, the likes of Preston and Baker to give them a chance to develop and gain league experience
