Going backwards...

Just seen a video on twitter of the 3-0 victory over Arsenal back in 2015.

It was such special night and could possibly just have been a fluke but we played with such passion and speed so many time after that.

7 of the starting 11 are still at the club. So what has happened?

Negative tactics, decrease in team morale, players fed up of being injured, relying on kids and adding pressure on them to perform, not playing key players, losing Semedo, Loovens, Wallace, and Westwood as key influences in the squad, etc.

Out of the key players from that season ...

loovens , Wallace, hunt have all moved on

Hutchinson , lee and hooper are finished and just clog up wages

westwood doesn’t get played and isn’t the keeper he once was

tied in with the inept way the club has been run, no wonder we are now relegation cannon fodder

The whole set up from top to bottom is a farce right now with and our owner didn't seem capable of steering us out of it.

Can we have a little bit of perspective. I want all these posts crying that we are doomed saved so we can reference them in 1 week when we win 3 in a row at home and get Arsenal in the cup in the 3rd round at Hillsborough and we can replicate that night in 1 month. We have Millwall, Ipswich and Wolves reserves. Can we all calm down and cheer up a little bit honestly! It is not that bad. Brentford will hammer lots of teams this year and was always going to be tough. Move on to Wednesday and lets see. WAWAW.

I still cannot comprehend how much money we have spent on new players and somehow end up with a starting eleven that is worse than before.

17/18 - £13.7m on 6 players - top spenders were Boro again with £51m

16/17 - £9.8m on 12 players  - top spenders were Villa with £76m

15/16 - £13.92m on 14 players - top spenders were Boro with £31m

Not exactly mega money. Wages and no outgoing transfers are what have crippled us.

Exactly this - we were short sighted and looked for instant success IMO. Instead of cashing in on a few of our successes, notable stories linking players such as westwood, Lees, Bannan, Lee, Jaoa, Fessi & Hirst over last three years we decided to keep them, not just keep them but pay them more too!

Championship teams cannot afford to stockpile good players, you need to continually be finding the next Bannan, Lees or Fessi not being held over a barrel to re-sign to new improved contracts. If we look at teams that have spent in the season just gone, with exception of relegated teams they have all sold their best players in years gone by. Derby, Leeds, Forest....

A few years ago we seemed great at taking a punt on an unwanted player and reviving careers. What I don't get is why that stopped and when we moved to a new model of buying proven players. I can only go back to that short sighted part of wanting instant success. It hasnt happened and now we are stuck with players who arguably can still do a job this year, but are the jobs they are doing worthy of the salaries being spent.
