Do Brentford really have 48 hours more recovery time than SWFC?

Recommended Posts

Swings and roundabouts to me.

Be other times when Wednesday have more recovery time then opposition.

Doubt many of the players will play in both anyway.

Also the games are going to happen anyway so dont make excuses for a bad performance before a ball has been kicked.

If we were playing Thursday - Saturday it would be an issue but we should be ok.

But there is a serious point about players picking up serious injuries when playing with knocks or when not ready. We've seen that in very recent times.

Always surprises me how after a 'tough' pre-season players are still not ready.

Watched Newcastle game the other day. Their lads were low in out their arses after about an hour.

Be interesting to see what pre-season consists of nowadays. A mate of mine played professionally (lower leagues) in the late 90s. His pre-season was basically run til your physically sick. And then some more. Guess things have moved on since then.

Anyone who thinks this is true should simply just stop watching football

The focus levels, concentration, sheer speed and velocity of the game, plus physical challenges mean that it's nothing like someone going to work in Sheff.

Nothing like.

Maybe not.......................but the class of 91 managed a FULL championship season, got to the 5th round of the FA cup....and WON the league cup (complete with replays and two legged semi final)  all with pretty much the same 15 or 16 players, so 3 games a week IS doable if we are being honest .

Have you tried shopping in Meadowhall?

:duntmatter:

It does my head in too Neil tbf.

They used to play Christmas day AND Boxing day in years gone by.

Yes, the skill levels and fitness are on a different plane now but it didn't stop old players blowing out of their arses.

It's all relative so stop being simplistic.

I tend to agree with you but the medical boffins have proved that 2 games in such a short period increase the risk of muscle/pulls/strains  injuries . …….do you ignore them, play twice in 72 hours and take the risk that bannan or FF don't pull up lame in the second game and be out for 6 weeks …….

Yes, ignore them.

We used to play every day for hours on end during our school holidays and I'm talking full pelt. Rarely got any pulls ir injuries and when we did, our bodies and joints were so used to the rigours of playing all the time that our bodies just laughed in the face of injuries.

I've also heard experts say that if every professional player simply played 90 minutes of football EVERY day instead of training, then his body, sinews and fitness would be at the absolute optimum for......

well a 90 minute game on a Saturday.

Makes chuffin sense!

Booo to training, ya can't beat playing football to prepare for playing football FFS!

Yes, but the class of 91 employed some specialist rehydration techniques that would be frowned upon these days.

Proper players though.. you wouldn’t have Nilsson, Palmer, Pearson, Anderson, etc whinging amd being injured all the time.
