Quite possibly one of the worst players in my time watching Wednesday bang average

Bang average puts him way above many, many others of my years of watching.

He was actually a pretty decent player. He could play centre half, right back or as the holding midfielder and was actually pretty good in the latter in my view. A good man marker.

Apart from that goal at Villa, the thing I really remember is going to coventry with him and Des as centre halves against Dion Dublin. They had no chance. Awful team selection.

I always find it slightly strange comments like this as I have heard them a few times on Owlstalk about Peter Atherton.

Would say the nearest player in terms of style Wednesday have had in last few years to Atherton is Semedo who was idolised and tears in many peoples eyes when he left.

Peter Atherton was a miles better player then Semedo.
