Eight Development Players Training With Main Squad

Recommended Posts

From Jos's Radio Sheffield Interview.

So 8 of the under 23s and younger are training with the main group. Jos hints that at least 1 will make the first team probably more.

These could be like new signings, although the likes of Thornily could be already considered first team squad.

Some of these "Kids" are over 20 years of age and should be developed enough for their prospects or lack thereof to be known.

Time was that if you hadn't made the first team by 20 or 21 it was time to find a proper job.

Lets hope that we have some great players about to be unearthed from our own resources. Now is the time.

So who are the eight?

I'm assuming Wildsmith and Dawson don't count. Nor Clare.

So,

Thorniley,

Neilsen,

Baker,

Kirby,

Stobbs...and?

Borukov, surely? Recently signed a proper contract, didn't he...

What of Penney? Is he back with us now? Presume he must be, having gone to Mansfield on loan in January - those deals only ever last until the end of the same season, right?

Hope so, he's the one I'm most excited by based on what I've seen so far.

edit: maybe Borukov is a bit young actually, not sure - only 18, I think?

Is O'Grady still on the books?

Still out on loan, but we can recall him any season

It's good but I'm not sure how many are highly rated.

The highly rated ones are leaving the club.

Indeed, unless we’ve done enough to convince Clare to stay He’s a gem

If nothing else, giving our youngsters first team opportunities, will help us avoid being ripped off by EPPP again

English academy products with a handful of games under their belts, generally = a 7 figure fee

Sheff Utd, Ipswich, Peterborough play that transfer game well.

Another positive would be ridding the Never Ready culture from our fanbase

You'd like to think that if they really are that good, their services would have been secured which leads me to think (and hope) that maybe they aren't anywhere near as good as they like to think they are.

Surely the whole point of having any sort of youth/academy system is to bring two or three players a season through who are capable of playing in the first team, so overall very happy to hear this news.

Give it a year or two and maybe we will have a team of home produced stars and others that we are selling on at 10 million plus.
