Recommended Posts

Sheffield Wednesday are poised to return to work this week to begin their preparations for the 2018/19 campaign.

The Owls’ players, who were given individual programmes at the end of last season, will be put through two days of rigorous fitness testing on Thursday and Friday.

So very pleasing to hear that.

Far too often in the past two seasons we have been beaten , not by better teams , but by fitter ones who have lasted out the full game much better than we have.

And superior fitness also tends to bring added confidence with it, so perhaps we might manage more crosses into the box from promising situations instead of the ball ending up back with our keeper without the opposition touching it.

Hopefully players have stuck to their regimes. Bannan always returned carrying some timber, then played his way to fitness. Hoping for a better approach this time.

Rightly so. It’s no secret that the players got off a little lightly under Carlos in pre-season with them leaning towards a heavier ball-work schedule over fitness.

The Championship is probably the most demanding league in Britain when it comes to fitness and physicality so good to see we should be well prepared on that front.

You can understand a player having an off day performance-wise but there should be no excuse for lack of effort and fitness.

The first season under CC we won a lot of games with last 5 minute goals, the second season we didn't seem to. The third season we usually gave goals away at the end of games. If my memory is right it indicates the teams fitness got worse year by year.

You can blame Carlos but the players must take some responsibility as well, they should take responsibility for their own fitness.

Looks like we are starting at least 10 days earlier than last year and no golfing break on the algarve either......

Happy days

I guess last season we finished the season about 10 days later due to play offs so it’s all relative.

But yeah no holiday camp abroad will be a good thing. Hopefully see a fitter more determined team this time round
