The Night-Owl Posted April 3, 2020 Share Posted April 3, 2020 Have to admit was guilty of underestimating or not appreciating him enough at the time due to the strikers we were blessed with in the early 90s but looking back at the the highlights and season review videos, has made me appreciate just how good and consistently effective he really was. He was very good for us, especially in his first two seasons and during his time at Palace before Francis signed him. Think we almost signed him in the 80s too but he signed for Leicester instead, a couple of years before he joined Palace. Synonymous with some highly memorable and iconic Cup runs with us and Palace, and was a consistent goalscorer in the top flight. Should be remembered fondly. Nowadays we can only look back at or dream of the calibre players we had in the 90s. The early 90s were a brilliant time to watch Wednesday. Team player and definitely knew how to look after himself, legend for the probably the most important goal of all our lives (definitely in the top 2). I heard him say “I might miss chances but I’m getting into the good positions to have those chances” in reply to that criticism and he was absolutely correct. The difference between a good forward and a great forward (like Bright) is the ability to make a chance for yourself by either fashioning it yourself or getting into the right position to get on the end of it. DJMortimer Posted April 4, 2020 Share Posted April 4, 2020 Bright frustrated a bit in his last couple of seasons with us, although he still scored a few goals. But overall it has to be said he was an excellent player for us. Not as eye catching as some of those around him but he didn't need to be. He knew what his role was and he fulfilled it very well. When David Hirst started to be afflicted by all those injuries, it was Bright that stepped up to score the goals. And as said previously in this thread, he always comes across as a decent bloke off the pitch too. That Twitter video from a couple of days ago was a nice touch; even wearing a Wednesday shirt. That is very true and he scored plenty for us including, of course, the winner in the '93 semi. Unfortunately, he had to miss that bloody sitter in the final. If he'd scored I'm sure we'd have won as Arsenal had fallen apart having been in cruise control.
