Jordan Thorniley “I’m looking forward to next season, I think it’s going to be a positive one.”

Owls defender Jordan Thorniley says he had the best season of his career so far after enjoying a strong breakthrough campaign with Wednesday.

The former Everton youngster made his debut for Wednesday in the 0-0 draw with Cardiff in January.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Accrington Stanley, who were eventually crowned League Two champions, but returned to S6, making 11 appearances for the Owls.

Thorniley said: “It was my best season so far, I’ve played 28 games so I’ll definitely take that!

“I’ll enjoy the break but I’ll make sure I’m ready to come back and hit the ground running and stake a claim for a first team place.

“I’m looking forward to next season, I think it’s going to be a positive one.”

The Owls’ first team are now on their end of season break, but Thorniley is already looking forward to returning to action.

He added: “I’ve got to work hard now in the off season.

“I’ll have a couple of weeks off but then I’ll be back on it, I get bored after a couple of weeks!

“I think it’ll be a tough pre-season, but it will make sure we’re ready to start next season well.”

That's the spirit Jordan, give em all 2 weeks off, then back on it.

Hard to believe he is only 21. What a cracking attitude for a young lad.

Good luck with your career kid. You deserve it.

I like how he mentioned pre-season and he's expecting it, and almost hoping, it's tough.

Get our troops combat ready, Jos!

He looks really comfortable in possession and has all the tools to get the defensive side of his game right- just needs to improve his decision making.

I love how the players know they are going to get worked very hard in pre-season but are actually looking forward to it! It's almost like they want to expunge the lack of focus on fitness under Clueless from their minds. I do think the youngsters like Thorniley who are clearly up for it will help the morale of the more hard-bitten, world weary pros in our team.

Not if they are taking their places. How refreshing to see youngsters coming through and players looking forward to a hard pre season..how times have changed
