I just watched! #swfc

A worthwhile thread given that so many on here seem to have suffered some kind of memory deletion disease of how good he is and are happy to see him offloaded because we have a couple of very promising young keepers.

Westwood isn't the best keeper at the club. He's the best keeper in the division.

He might have been when he was playing. Until we see him play again we won't know.

Can't make great saves when sat in the stand!

But fully fit I doubt he would be sat in the stand.

A luxury we don't need.  Wildsmith/Dawson are exceedingly capable

I try not to do the red disagree button as I prefer to explain. Ildsmith and Dawson are good but watching thatntheynare nowhere near him yet.

Cash in. Let someone else pay his medical bills

Cash in how though? For a start he hasn't played for months, and even if he had whats the best we could hope for, £2-5m?

Doesn't feel like that would stretch so far for new players, these days?

And to think, some would be happy to see him leave. The best keeper in the Championship by a country mile.

Agreed, but that's if he is fit and can stay fit, which presently he isn't and it looks like his problems in that area are getting worse, so yes I say sell whilst he still has a value.

Do you really think that? They are fantastic options, but it’s the same as trying to sell Fessi...

Not even close.  He's in his solid 30s, had injuries, and prone to just as many howlers as moments of sublime.  Love the guy, but sentimentality is a fool's game when you've got absolutely capable understudies already proving themselves.

In all the time I've followed Wednesday (over 50 years) we've been saying it'll be great when we get so and so back from injury. Trouble is once players start getting injuries in most cases the situation gets worse not better. Right now Westwood falls into that category, as it has to be said do several others in the squad.

Are we all happy to see Westwood develop into another:

Mick Prendergast

Brian Hornsby

Ian Knight

David Hirst

Ryan Jones

Chris Stringer

Steve McLean

JP McGovern

Nicky Weaver

Chris Kirkland

etc, etc, etc

Sorry, but time for him to go

Decent keeper but drops the frequent clanger. Sometimes we’re fortunate and sometimes we’re not. Way off his line for the goal in the playoff final

...and it made no difference whatsoever to whether that shot went in or not. In fact, had he been a little further forward he might have reached it as it was rising all the time and went right into the top of the net.

there is no argument that during 2015/16 and probably 2016/17 westwood was the best keeper in the championship . last season when he played he started to make errors and his fitness record was not good ,during the previous 2 seasons his form for us was excellent but he did have injuries and also had to rest quite often during the week ,also missing most Ireland squads which ended up costing him not been Ireland no1 . if westwood next season was guaranteed to stay fit then id keep him ,but his 25k a week wages and a fee might enable us to bring in a couple of players in other positions what we need.

I wouldn't say frequent clanger id say an odd clanger , wildsmith has had many clangers last season ,which he needs to get out of his game if he is to be future no1 ,

Makes goalkeeping look easy.  However believe Dawson is as good potentially, and also a bit of a loon which u need in a keeper at times.

Westwood is one of best we've ever had but in our position financially take the cash ...

Reminds me of an interview with John Burridge “The gaffer told me that you have to be mad to be a goalkeeper, and that I had the qualities to be an international”

Letting him leave would be a huge risk. Yes Wildsmith and Dawson have been fantastic but Westwood is in a different league entirely (well not literally but you know what I mean). He is the best keeper in this division when fit.

Huge risk?  Huge risk is banking on his 2016 form coming back and stunting the great progression our young keepers have shown.

We have very little saleable assets.  Westwood is the one who HAS to go, esp. if FFP rears its head.

I disagree. I think we have to keep him. I'd rather get him back firing and have one of Joe or Cam as back up than let him go to another side in this division and come back to bite us. We also wouldn't get anywhere near enough for him, it would make more sense to get him fit and playing.
