The semi final game against Brighton in 2016, and Westwood single-handedly keeps us in both games, to get us to the final.

We have amazing options after that, but just look at these saves to realise how many points he saved us that season:

A luxury we don't need.  Wildsmith/Dawson are exceedingly capable

I think that’s mad. Of course we’re very gifted in that area, but I don’t think either have the distribution Westwood has.

We surely need to be keeping hold of the of the most talented players we have?

Keepers always get a bad rep, but I think we’d be wrong to sell Westwood.

You're joking right?

I like Westwood a lot but his kicking is abysmal at times. I lost count of how many times his goalkicks sailed out of touch over the last couple of seasons.

If that's the only game you went to a couple of seasons ago you may think he has good distribution.  I'm a long time North stand ST holder and If you look harder you may find one or two other examples of good distribution but i could show you many more where it leaves a lot to be desired.

Please don't get distribution mixed up with being a good goalie and shot stopper with which he excels at times.

Westwood is a very good keeper no doubt. Will he be as good as he was after injury and a long time out, this remains to be seen.

I like Westwood, but I also think we should cash in on him now and in our reported financial circumstances and also in the knowledge we have fine young keepers at the club and who have proved already that they can step up to the mark.

Westwood overall has been a great keeper for us, but he also just had his worst season for us and made a fair few uncharacteristic errors, including a very poor performance v pigs.

Isn't Westwood's contract up next summer?

A difficult decision is needed.

I think Dawson and Wildsmith both need another year of development before stepping up as no. 1 (and 2). Preferably one out on loan until Jan and the other Jan-May. All assuming that Westwood is fit to start the new season.

So do we keep Westwood and release on a free next summer?

Or give Westwood an extended contract now to try to tie in a resale value? What message does that send to Joe/Cam?

Or do we cash in now?

Glad it's not my decision to make.

He is still the best we have, when fit. But fitness is something he's struggled for in recent times, and that battle won't get easier as he enters latter years of his career.

We also have two young pups of an age and standard whom have shown us they're ready to contribute and take the baton. It feels time to hand over.

He is getting on and has been getting injured frequently for the last 2 seasons and now injured for the better part of this season. We have 2 very good young keepers. It's the perfect time to sell him.

This is why he is our number 1, player of the season on two occasions and Irish international.
