Contract speculation aside, I really wanted to like Sean Clare, but was a bit turned off when I observed what appeared to be an overtly cocky attitude. If you have the skills to compensate for an attitude that's one thing, but here it just seemed all a bit like it was delusions of grandeur.

 

My impression was that Jos is not a fan of such attitudes, and he even intimated as such during the press conference where he made a statement along the lines of Sean still having a lot to learn. I suspect the contract offer was more symbolic, to show we made an effort, than it was with the hope he sign it. In contrast, the youngsters we actually did sign have demonstrated humility and gratitude towards the club.

Is it really a risk to just match whatever any prem team would pay? 

No one is going to pay him loads at any level.

 

Why let one of our kids go who has shown a lot of promise due to wages when we are paying Rhodes, Fletcher, Abdi fortunes a week.

Because most Prem clubs could stick him on 20k a week and not think about it. 

 

We can't afford to be offering a kid - who has made about 2 first team appearances (for us) - that sort of money. 

 

Just because we've spent silly money on senior pros, doesn't mean we should be spending silly money on unproven kids.

The player is clearly showing a lot of promise for top clubs to be after him. 20k a week to keep him here for under 2 million over 2 years for the possibilities of much more back seem low risk to me.

Clare has shown bits and pieces.

 

Owen Morrison could run and run with the ball, but very rarely did anything with it.   All bluster.    JJ also had drive with the ball at his feet, but would we say he was good enough for a top end Championship side?

 

Clare still has time on his side, but at a time when he should be knuckling down and learning from pros around him who have a lot more experience, he's flouncing around thinking he's billy big nads.

 

Probably be another Giles Coke.   A lot was expected, but ultimately went on to achieve a grand total of nothing.    

 

It is a shame he was not used before though, and someone put their arm around him to try to guide him a little better.

One of our biggest mistakes in the last few decades was letting the best right back in the country, and one of the best in the world at the time - leave.

 

Money would not have resolved that issue.

 

This is not football manager, it's real life with real life issues.
