Reach At Left Wingback

Can't agree. He's a defensive liability and will get found out when we're put under pressure by better sides.

Think he may just be used in the games we want to seriously attack in. Tough away games he may not play there. but every home game next season I want to see him at left wingback.

Against weaker sides it’s perfect. So much intelligence going forward and his energy makes him so tough to track.

I do think his suspect defensively, though, so I’d be nervous playing him there against stronger opposition. Hopefully Jos can develop that defensive awareness in him.

At last....

And long may it continue....

Great if we now have a good left back winger. I'd say all we need for next season now is Honeyman (for example) from Sunderland.

I mean now that Baker has shown he can "do a job" at right wing back.

He may be a tiny bit suspect defensively, but most wingbacks are.  And if you consider who's likely to be playing on the left of a back three, Pudil, a guy who is also a good left back, it's not gonna be that big an issue.  Also, lets have other teams worry about the threat that Fernando and Adam bring down that side.  Teams are not gonna be pushing on down their right hand side.

We are talking left wing back not left back. Adam Reach is tailor made for the left wing back role. Not defensively good enough for left back and not really tricky or rapid enough for an attacking winger.

Left wing back all day for me.

The thing that makes this work, ironically is the outside centre backs (Venancio and Pudil/Thorniley) can both play fullback too. So when one wingback goes forward the other can drop in to make a back 4 with the outer centre back covering the space the wingback left.

in this system you want your wingback to be comfortable going forward and competent defensively but the key traits are the crossing ability and work rate. Reach has both those in spades. He is by far the most natural we have for the role on that side.

13 assists now this season , joint 3rd best in the league

But how many goals?

You need both for real tops.

He doesn't have pace for left winger so when inverted on right , really good.

As a wing -back, we really need a top , top stopper to deal with high crosses from both wings because they'll keep on coming in.

And we can't defend them at present.

The problem with saying he's a defensive liability though, is that completely misses the point of what the wing backs are there to offer.

They are mainly offensive, sacrificing the security of doubling up on the wing with the added safety of more defensive numbers in the centre.

It's a trade off.

Exactly right wingers haven't had too much success against Ryan Sess (Can't spell it ) Fulham Left Wing Back this season.

This is his best position, area to improve on is how easily he allows crosses come into the box. If he can improve on this then he will be top class.

Reach stats are more then good enough if our strikers score the goals we know they can next season.

He may not be lightening but he is an athlete with great stamina. Reach is always more effective in the second half at wing back, when his stamina allow him to run past tired legs, which we have seen frequently.

That is up to Jos. He seems to like his strikers to be mobile and impact the game at all times.
