Goal scoring Midfielders / Defenders

Recommended Posts

Thinking back to seasons gone by, we've always had a goals coming form all over the pitch, with midfield and defenders chipping in. 2012 promotion year was a great season for goals from the back!
We've really missed out on the goals from Lee, Wallace, Bannan this year. It'd be great to bring in a really threat from midfield, or adapt FF into playing in the attacking midfield role.
Would also love to bring in a massive centre back (In the mould of Flint), who's solid at the back and can score 6-7+ goals a year too

Top 5 scorers this year all strikers.

Hope Dave gets one on Sunday to pip Hooper to be honest! Love the big man. (Interesting looking at his goals per min stat!)

He’s been our best striker this season by a long way , him and joao have been fantastic under jos . Does my head in how players like this play brilliantly yet Favourites sit Constantly injured and the sun shines out theirs.

Nuihus 2018 performances are a big reason why we are so clear of the drop zone

If playing a front 2 Nuhiu and Hooper would be a pretty good partnership imo.

I don't think his goals/assists per minute will be that bad over his entire time here especially when you consider his main job before Jos was to create space for others.

Loved Big Mig and Reda, frightening in both boxes on set pieces.

What was the Llera chant?

Our defence hasn't really contributed any goals since we came up to Champ.

Lee, Wallace and FF playing left scored quite a few in CC first season, Lee obvs injured, Bannan shooting pretty Appalling given how accurate he is at spraying pinpoint passes around.

Clearly a mental issue as he seems to panic and just try and hammer it (over the bar)

As mentioned in another thread, Plymouth’s Captain is out of contract, 6ft5 cb who has 11 goals in 89 games for them.

still in his 20s. Nothing to suggest we have any interest though unfortunately and he will probably sign a new deal there.

See to remember Pearson always got us goals and then Reda and Liera scored their fair share. But arguable the best central defender we ever had in my time Des Walker used to get a nose bleed if he left our half and the only goals he ever got was in his own net - but a goals a goal lol

Agree, it's nice to have other areas of the team chip in with goals  but lets concentrate on goal scoring forwards first. I know we have been poo , had injuries etc but for our top scorer to only have 11 goals is a bit pathetic.

Reda scored 19 in 87 for us

The problem with that partnership is there is absolutely no pace there. Possibly the slowest partnership in the championship lol . Imho you need to be able to mix it up. Play into feet at times, play long/direct balls to the front men as an outlet at times and be able to play balls into them to run in behind. Those 2 as much as i love them aren't running away from anyone

Think that's a bit of a red herring tbh. None of our strikers have played a full season, so aye, the goals have been spread around.

The team has scored 54 goals so far, which is very much in line with only the top 6 and Hull (weirdly) scoring a decent amount more. For us having an absolutely dire season, that suggests that finding the net hasn't been as bad a problem as you might think.

The problem has lied in defence, with none of the top 13 clubs conceding as many as we have.

When you look at the last 8 games and take our goal average from them and apply it across an entire season we're at 86 goals scored and 46 against. That's promotion form, right there.

So I'd not focus on the forwards at all, infact, wehave a very good basis to go into next season with in all depts. All we need to do is replace those leaving (most notable Venancio since he was starting) and improve where we can (most notably left back). Then add some competition/other options and keep an eye on FFP.
