thewookieisdown Posted April 26, 2018 Share Posted April 26, 2018 Fascinating stuff. You can't beat a happy climax. The Bramall Lane thing is fascinating. Can't immediately find it but in one of the David Kynaston books on post-war British history he describes one of the Newcastle cup wins in the early 50s, and notes that Sunderland supporters were cheering the team as they headed off for Wembley: it was the norm those days that you had a favourite team but cheered for all the local outfits. Not wholly sure that the change has been for the better. Certainly it has gone rather too far. "Promotion is life" according to the Bishop.
