George Smith on #SWFC : Three areas to strengthen this summer..

Recommended Posts

It’s no secret that the Owls are in need of a big overhaul this summer as they bid to try and return to the heights of the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons.

Wednesday’s current squad has been plagued by injuries this season, so much so that they currently have an injury list consisting of over ten first-team players.

And it’s not only the injury problems that are an issue for Wednesday, who host Reading at Hillsborough on Saturday, it’s the amount of players who are now over the other side of 30

"This summer promises to be a massive one for Wednesday, but there is no reasoning to suggest that it is going to be a quick-fix for Luhukay. It could take several transfer windows to create the squad that he wants."

If he doesn't get it sorted in one transfer window the knifes will be out and he'll be lucky to get a second. Unfortunately.

We lose the play off final we need a beast in the middle of the field, a pacy winger and a decent striker - 2 years later we still need a pacy winger and a beast in the middle but if fit the striker issues have been sorted.

Will we be here this time next season saying the same thing or for the first transfer window since DC arrival will we sign the players we need instead of signing the players that are available.

Don't think we will be able to afford the players we really need for at least another year, possibly longer if we can't offload some expensive players.

Centre half has needed strengthening for some time.

The youngsters have done well when called upon but I'd like to see someone with a more games under his belt.

Whatever system we play next season (or a mix according the Jos) left back must surely be a priority position. Mustn't it?

Target man and pacy winger for Rhodes.

Giant stopper , too.

We have two target men, Fletcher and Nuhui.

We dont need to pander to Rhodes.  He needs to shape up and fit in with us, earn his place.

We have several central defenders of varying sizes if thats you mean by 'giant stopper'.

Possibly need a defensive midfielder to replace Hutch.

Want us to go with 4 at the back next season.

New centre half to partner Lees who has leadership qualities. New left back - can we have someone who is bl00dy good instead of our last 3 recruits who have been crap. New defensive midfielder to compete with Pelupessy. Ideally someone who is physical who can dish it out. It pains me to say it, but we can’t rely on Hutch. We need a fast wide attacking option, ideally on the right.

I was saying the same thing after our playoff final defeat at Wembley. We need to get it right this summer.

Totally agree.  Those are the 3 positions in desperate need.  I would also add a new right sided defender to challenge Hunt as Palmer is pants and someone with a bit of pace up front.
