Westwood in demand?

Looks like other clubs interested, wonder if we are ready to deal?

SOUTHAMPTON are chasing the summer signature of Sheffield Wednesday keeper Keiren Westwood.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has a year left on his Owls contract, is out for the season after suffering a fresh groin injury.

And Westwood, 33, might now have played his last game for Wednesday with Leeds and Celtic also interested in the experienced stopper.

The Irishman fits the bill for Mark Hughes’ relegation-threatened Saints, who are looking to off-load Fraser Forster in the summer and want competition for his replacement Alex McCarthy.

Westwood has been out for four months after surgery on his groin but suffered a tear on his return to training last week.

He will miss their remaining Championship fixtures as well as Ireland's post-season friendlies against France, United States and Celtic.

With FFP looming it's plausible that Chansiri would view a 33 yr old who could still command a relatively decent fee as a reasonable oppoŕtunity to get some money in the coffers.

Dawson and Wildsmith have done well in the main but it's a big jump to say they can fight it out for number 1 spot.

id let him go we have to bring the wage bill down before anyone can join the wage bill plus he is very injury proned ,even before this season he was not fit to train before games many times due to injuries . wildsmith though needs to improve his game if he wants to be no1.

If we're gonna let Kieran Westwood go we can forget about promotion next season. Wildsmith is good but nowhere near No 1.

We won’t get promoted next season, with or without Westwood. We are heading for a couple of fallow years, and I’m not convinced a large % of the fan base have got their heads round that.

Top 3 next season will be Southampton and 2 of the sides that don’t make it through the playoffs.

Westwood had a right go at someone who said he was injury prone on Twitter and pointed out the number of games he had played - be careful. :tango:
