Safe Standing gets rejected

Recommended Posts

West Brom have had a proposal to introduce safe standing at The Hawthorns rejected by the government.

The pilot scheme would have meant 3,600 seats in the Smethwick End were converted to 'rail seats', which can be locked in an upright position.

Can't see the point of it, no good without the surge.

Which would be why it won’t be allowed here.

Like at celtic you mean?

Or Burton

Wish  someone could explain why it is safe to stand in the lower leagues and rugby etc, but not the premier

Think eventually all standing will be eliminated at football and rugby games too. Very cautious now and will not allow standing where likelybe substantial numbers.

But do they outweigh the benefits of sitting in the eyes of the authorities?  I can see the sense of it on the face of it but the authorities would see it as political madness to allow it England.

It's political madness not to allow it.

its soooo much safer than standing in the seating areas like just about every team do on a weekly basis.

no surge as there is a rail between every row. everyone is allocated their own space.

tracy crouch knows nothing about football. hears the word standing equals automatic no. if she educates herself on the facts its a no brainer.

only way my lad can watch at an away game is to stand on a tipped teat, and as for what happened at wembley when the older folk/younger kids literally couldnt watch/see the game, at nearly £100 a ticket.

if there is an option to stand maybe the folks in the seats will be the ones that WANT to sit.

needs to be sorted, will improve atmospheres around the grounds too.

common sense will eventually prevail, it might just take way longer than it should.

Short-sighted decision by the powers that be. It is used elsewhere across the globe and there is clearly a demand for it. Better to have a designated safe standing area than what we have currently.

If you want to sit down at the match ,go in the south stand with the coffin dodgers.

We used to stand on the Kop back in the day ,and half the fun of going to the game was the surge when we scored and ending up 50 yds away from where we started. All the atmosphere has gone from the game since the elf and safety police banned standing.

Burton haven't had 3 seasons in the Championships yet, so they are allowed to have standing.  The 3 year rule was allowed to give clubs time to make the necessary stadium changes.

It's a bit of a joke in that standing is allowed at gigs where there is moshing, crowd surfing and general over crowding at the front in a darkened room with flashing lights where a lot of folk are p1ssed and can keep drinking

Safe standing is the future for football atmospheres. Orlando City built their new home ground with a home end terrace and it's beautiful!

To me that is safer than sitting.

No danger of going over other seats in front of you.

And you could argue  that you could evacuate the area quicker
