Wednesdays all time Premier League Team.

Recommended Posts

Killing some time at Manchester airport so we decided to come up with this, here are the rules.

Rules:

25 man squad

2 for every position

The remaining 3 have to have come through the Wednesday Academy.

You can have any player who played for the owls in the Premier League.

The player can be at ANY point in their career, not just at the point they were at when they were at Wednesday, which might mean a few surprise selections.

Here goes:

Goalkeepers:

Chris Woods

Bruce Grobbelaar

Kevin Pressman

Defenders:

Andy Hinchcliffe

Nigel Worthington

Des Walker

Nigel Pearson

Emerson Thome

Paul Warhurst

Peter Shirtliff

Viv Anderson

Roland Nilsson

Midfielders:

Andy Sinton

Regi Blinker

Carlton Palmer

John Sheridan

Wim Jonk

Klas Ingesson (God rest him)

Ryan Jones

Chris Waddle

Trevor Francis

Strikers:

David Hirst

Paulo Di Canio

Benito Carbone

Darko Kovacevic

As I said in the rules, this can be players from ANY point in their career.

The 3 Academy players I went for were Pressman, Shirtliff and Ryan Jones.

Some dubious decisions I know but I imagine a team like that with those players in their peak would cause some real damage to other teams.

That's my squad, what's yours???

That's a good squad but I'd probably swap Blinker for Alexandersson & Ingesson for Nicol (top player in his prime)

You'd get a double heart if I could for including Degryse,  what a wonderful footballer. I wish we'd had him longer than his fleeting stint here.

I loved him. He played with the freedom and expression of a kid in the schoolyard.

My side would be similar to yours.

One  cheeky change.

I'm dropping Brighty (much as I liked him and his impressive record) for Dalian because... well. I just loved him. So frustrating, but what a player. What huge potential.

Atkinson didn’t play for us in the premier league unfortunately.

agree he was a great player though.

True. But he did play in the Premier League.

Which considering some people have players in their lists who were playing when you could still score a rouge, I think I can get away with!

Agree on Degryse, but I think Dalian only played for us in the old Div 1 and Bright is our all time top scorer in the PL so think he has to go in.

ANY POINT IN HIS CAREER and yet nobody picks Steve Nicol? Player of the Year in 1988 and one of the m,ost decorated players of the eighties?

Also, apparently no Steve Watson who for a few years was the best right back in the country.
