Jon Newsome "There has to be an inquest into the lack of fitness"

Recommended Posts

We don't really need an inquest. We need the basics, ie, a demanding pre-season, in-depth injury management and proper coaching. I think it's already evident that these things are in place under Jos. The question is, will Jos be here next season to continue the good work?

No inquiry is needed. This is just a Carlos witch hunt. He is gone. It is the past.

Sports science will probably tell you how to train for top level football. There maybe more than one theory.

It will probably tell you that under or over training, or following a certain regime may statistically increase the likelihood of injury.

It would be very difficult to prove causality between any given specific injury and the training regime followed.

Thus, any inquiry would be unlikely to provide anything conclusive or useful.

The way forward would still be to follow a tried and tested training regime.

There's some proper paranoia on this point

To say it's a Carlos witch hunt is as bizarre as it is inaccurate

Unless of course the general consensus is that it was only, purely and SOLELY Carlos that caused all these horrific injuries?

we need a poll .....A ).do fans think the club have looked into and come up with a solution to remedy the amount of injuries we've incurred

......  B) .  buried there head in the sand and carried on regardless

i'm certain(unless jos is inept) they have looked into the reasons why .....that they've not told the local rag./media   is probably irking the journo's.

It is not really paranoia unless I am Carlos.

It is hardly bizarre as there are posts on here saying that the problem stops with the manager and there are plenty of posts in other threads where Carlos is blamed for the injuries and some have gone as far as saying it was intentional.

It is not a consensus but there are significant numbers of people who post on this site who blame Carlos for the number and severity of injuries.

Let's not get into slating the person who made the point and stick to discussing the subject instead

Good point. some very grumpy people on here today. Why the nastiness?

Given we have lost fox and hutch for the season this week, why do you all think it has completely changed and no further investigation required

He was manager of our club when these injuries happened .

His responsibility..

if it wasn't ..

What the bloody hell did we employ him to do ?

It laid well and truly at his feet

Sadly, local journalism has been eviscerated in recent years.

It's not that newsome's comments are necessarily wrong. Just that they don't particularly carry any insight.

I'd like to see some proper analyticals on this - in particular how bad really have our injury problems been compared to other clubs'? This season? Last three seasons? Maybe some simple metrics of no of incidences of a player being out for a month; and unit incidents of players missing a game. My hunch is that this would look really bad for us this season, but not stand out several standard deviations away bad; and less bad the previous three. There is a hell of a lot of confirmation bias, inevitably, in what most of us perceive.

That's quite a lot of work and the data will be imperfect. But an intern with fairly basic skills should be able to come up with something in a week.

Good grief.

In recent weeks Matias, Fox, Clare, Hutchinson have all sustained injuries that have kept them put for weeks.

These are not in any meaningful sense Jos's responsibility.

Good grief.
