1967 Norwich away FA cup 5th round

Recommended Posts

Also went with my dad, first away match and went by train. As we couldn't get tickets for the '66 Final dad promised to go to all the cup games for the following season. I remember that the ground was so packed that I had to stand on a support for the cladding at the back of the standing area and being supported by my dad to be able to see any of the game. Not sure how much he saw though.

Did the Chelsea game too which coincided with the Grand National race. Something happened there too but not as sickening as losing to Chelsea who were a tough team in those days. Still hate George Graham for what he did to Vic Mobley!

I went to that game with my dad, can't remember much about this one but the quarter final at Stamford bridge was cruel - if I remember right we conceded a goal in injury time to lose one nil.

I remember my first trip to soho that night without my dad !!

Forget the match, tell us about Soho.

I think it was this match I went to with some mates from work. I lived in Heeley though. Went on the train which seemed to go half way round the country to get there.

Stand out memory....................

Bought a hot dog from a cart on the bridge over the river as we couldn't get any food on the train.

I go to Norwich (not football) regularly and still remember that day .

Anybody remember the team and scorers?

Just found this

Amazing A12 .. how do find this stuff?

Brought back fantastic memories .. went to the next game at the bridge where we lost by a mishit shot by Tommy Baldwin.

The barrier went right behind us and we were passing bits of concrete and metal down to the front before the game in 1967... scary.  (over 52000 at the Bridge)

See the Chelsea team ..

Yes I went on the train that day .. probably same train with Barry Macateer and Dave (Bish) Sobucki.  We were from the Barton Rd /Midland Rd/ Springfield Rd area.   Also a girl called Rhona and her friend came along .. we did Carnaby Street and up the GPO  (  B T Tower now) in the day.

Use to wonder why there were so many Heeley lads who were Wednesdaite being so close to the Lane.

Must be a legacy of Olive Grove and succeeding generations.

Anyway great post .. well done.

Yes remember the Chelsea game coinciding with the Grand National, there was a multi horse pile up at Canal Turn, and the hundred to one outsider Foinaven came through to win.

I didnt go to the Norwich game, but I saw it on MOTD,got tickets for that heartbreaking QF at the bridge though, played chelsea off the park only for baldwins scuffed shot to trickle over the line with no time left to pull it back,I can still see it now after all these years, the cup was cruel to us in the 60s,teased us then shut its legs!

Incredible memories. Went to Norwich and then went to Chelsea. The F A Cup was just so important then. I used to feel sick with nerves all week before a Cup game. The Chelsea game was about as bad as it gets. Mis-hit shot in the 98th minute to lose 1-0.  It seemed a long journey back.  Is it just me, or was it all much more enjoyable then?  Maybe it’s just that I’m an old sad git now.

Its not just you pal,it was FAR more enjoyable way back then, and less commercialised, the game has had the life sucked out of it,for the good of the few

I was 11 and went with my dad, don't remember much about the game but do remember seeing a Golden Lab dead at the side of the road on the way, strange what you do and don't remember. Also went to Stamford bridge and leaving early to get the 'first' train back not realising we'd lost till told by someone later, I was devastated no Wembley return!!

I seem to remember that David Ford was carried off unconscious at Chelsea near the end of the game and woke up in the dressing room thinking that we had got a replay.

Like many on here, I also went to the Norwich and Chelsea matches. Norwich was a good day out - still is. I had also gone to all the away cup games in 1966 so was optimistic that we could do it again. The Chelsea defeat was painful - I can still remember that last-minute goal.

Thanks for the compliments dtr.

It helps being a boring old retired fart with too much time on my hands until it gets warm enough to go fishing.

Goggle is a wonderful thing lol

I seem to remember that we visited Doncaster and Peterborough on the train that day. Felt as though we went to Carlisle and Penzance the time it took.
