SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY - ACCOUNTS AND FFP THREAD

Agreed, and the losses are to be expected, however it's what we've spent the money on that's an issue- we've ended up with a squad that's not really fit for purpose (if the purpose is to challenge at the top end) because we're loaded with misfiring strikers and too many similar midfielders, and a lack of quality defenders.

We've also failed to stay within FFP (almost certainly next year anyway) which is a concern  given DC has continually said we must be mindful of it (not mindful enough it seems).

Fact is, if we'd had an effective transfer strategy we could have built on 15/16 and had another decent crack this year and next. Instead though we've mismanaged the £39m margin for the last year and a half and we're about to feel the pain.

This.

Enough people have been raising it for long enough.

We've had a good few good value players....and a quality squad.

It's what you do with them.. isn't it really?

FFS.

Certainly is old bean. We've managed to make them looked chained by invisible shackles.  But then if you're going to do that to players ...you're never going to get the value for money you're after

Owners invest in the club = big loss = bad management

Owners don't invest in the club = still losses = bad management / no commitment

Yet our fans still think we can charge £10 a game and still expect to compete

Ok Dejphon calm down Its not all bad ....Carlos has gone.....oh wait minute:duntmatter:

NB- With a canny manager and good value players

We were one win away from promotion one year, and two away the next.

Not sure you can blame the strategy of the Chairman for losing one game tbh.

We've challenged at the top end both years that this squad has even been vaguely fit.

If you want to say our squad without Hooper, Forestieri, Fletcher, Bannan, Lee, Lees, Westwood, Hutch etc. etc. isn't good enough, fine - but then you should remove their wages from the consideration too.

Some people on here will never be happy until we're owned by a spit and sawdust Yorkshireman born in a Sheffield steel mill, who wears a flat cap, lives on Hendersons and appoints Megson on a lifetime contract.

I know you are jesting mate but a few people don't like change and would be happy for us to return to the stoneage and it shows with their continued agenda of the barrage of constant drivel against the club day in, day out, no names mentioned, as no need everyone can see who they are...

No harm in asking questions and being concerned and worried, far from it

Obsession will get the better of them eventually.

Shackles...it's a synonym on here for lack of pace.

Our style was to move the ball quickly and press when we didn't have it.

The moment the critical mass occurred.. when we ran out of desire/player fitness/motivation...then the game was up.

FFS.

Over three years it can't be over 39 million loss

Sounds like pretty much everything goes into the losses now inc womens football, study centres etc

Don't think that's right. The rules are set out on the EFL website: https://www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/appendix-5---financial-fair-play-regulations/

This an interesting point of possible exception: 2.4.2 Post year end player sales proceeds which can be demonstrated to have been used to fund previous losses;

Oh no. I don't blame him for those tactics which cost us.  I did think for the money he'd spent he'd had been asking more questions of the man deciding on them though.

Sounds like FFP doesn't exist now

It's Profit and Sustainability now

Yes we know, but plenty don't and if you start a thread and just refer to P&S plenty will not know what you are on about. More do know about FFP and it is essentially the same purpose under a different name.
