SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY - ACCOUNTS AND FFP THREAD

Brighton built a new stadium, train station and training centre for most of those losses.

So, excluded from FFP.

Both them and Hudders had local fans as owners with 50 years footy experience between them.

We have a nice guy but who lets his 10 year old son spend £10 million on a player Carlos didn't want.

And because of crap contract clauses, we can't afford to play half of our senior players.

Think you are undermining you points with this. If for example, your were one of our players who wasn't getting selected due to a made up injury, wouldn't you take some legal action and involve the FA if this were the case? Your status as being continually injured would be harming your future revenue opportunities, let alone the fact that you are missing out on appearance money and the alleged bonus money to which you would be entitled if you were playing.

Here we go, local fans as owners... Just a matter of time before these daft antiquated comments surfaced. And 10m on a player Carlos never wanted, but ALL the fans did.

It will be interesting how the club explain/spin this particularly for next season's campaign - the options seem to be clear (fire sale or shat or bust) as FFP is a measurable reality.

We've had some pretty rubbish seasons over my time watching the club, but this one, due to the on and off field debacles tops it. The only thing that could get worse is we get relegated on the last day of the season.

No punishment is off the table, yet what punishment have they ever imposed?

The last set of FFP rules were governed by the FL alone, they didn't have the balls or financial backing to challenge clubs breaking them or impose the size of fines they should have.

The new P&S rules are different, these are fully aligned with the PL and, more importantly, have the full backing of PL and all its financial muscle.

Tis a good post - but how do you know they haven't involved PFA, etc?

Also, this came from Radio Sheffield who are not known for making things up.

Plus , the contract bonuses are for clubs who sold players to us, not money to players (recall Madine from Carlisle).

Finally, I suspect some of our players are happy to be out of firing line at present  (blimey Rhodes didn't wanna take a pen).

When, which players?

I am sure it has happened before in the sense that players weren't played because more appearances would have activated bonuses but the instances I remember of this, the actual reason was known by all and no secret was made of it, no injuries were invented as an excuse, certainly not for so many players over such a period of time.

Only Sheffield Wednesday could spend 25 years seeking serious investment, finally get it, and then end up in a pickle like this.

The only possible way out of this is to generate as much from player sales in the summer as possible, gamble on youth, and dig in for the long term.

This is serious investment

when The owners put funds into a club its via loans which put the club in debt.

It will sit as debt in the Account until it’s either written off or Chanseri moves on the the repayment of the loan will form part of the deal to sell.

It’s not ideal but it’s better that the club owes cash to the owners rather than a third party who may have to take a commercial decision and call in the debt.

The stadium opened in 2011. And Brighton don't own it and didn't pay for it.
