Not according to a physio at Wednesday who was sacked in the summer. Completely dictated by the manager apparently.

Funny that happens to be the same physio whose actions last year made Tom Lee’s injury worse by not doing what was asked of him by the coaches

And quite rightly, he's the manager.  His job is to manage the players including their fitness, injuries etc.

Most players would probably say they are OK to play even if they are carrying an injury (as with Tom Lees).  A good manager should know when to play and when not to play one of their players.

We've got to stop saying this. A player's availability is the responsibility of the medical team and the player himself, not the manager.

That is the scenario at all clubs.

Who manages the players and the medical team?

who picks the team?

Not true and if it were it doesn't say much about a physio who would allow himself to be overruled.

The same physio who oversaw Tom's breakdown last season - his bitter comments have little validity.

But he can only pick players who have been passed fit to play by the medical team.

Can't believe how so many of you don't understand and accept that.

What if he just sacks the medical team and bring in a new one more in line with his way of thinking?

You may also be passed fit to play even tho you are carrying an injury. It’s the managers call whether to play him or not.

Also if the manager gets the recruitment right and the balance of the squad right there should be no need to pick a player carrying an injury. Tom Lees in particular seemed to play in pretty much every game. Where’s the player management there?

Can't believe how little you understand that some clubs actually work

A player never has to accept medical advice and if they declare themselves able to play then many managers will go with that

Some managers will take the advice of the medical team - many don't as long as the player is compliant and willing to play

And some managers will put pressure on a player to play when he is not 100% fit.

Perhaps a little injection will help

That's the player making the decision not the manager.
