Was this your old pre match pub for home games?

Lol. As teenagers we used to ring up, putting on the most outrageously camp voice possible, to ask if they could put on a big gay birthday bash. Used to promise to make a booking if they promised to put on a tray of cheesy poofs. Never tired of it and whoever used to answer the phone would say, ah, it’s you toe rags again. Both use to laugh before hanging up.

was it a 'coming out' party?

is it people's drinking habits have changed, or less money in local circulation has meant pub closures?

Drink driving, supermarket prices, other things to spend money on, smoking ban, closure of local industries. The list is endless.

Shed a tear at its passing. Can’t remember the number of opposition fans I used to direct towards this establishment when milking around the station and in search of refreshments.

Did a smashing pint of Carling in there, it was a nicer boozer than most round that area.Used to go in on a Wednesday before 80's night at the Leadmill .

tougher drink driving laws?, people spend their money going out for a meal with a drink?, more on tv to watch whilst drinking at home?, more than 85% of the pubs in the village i grew up in have shut.

Yeah all of that

Plus big screen TV's as daft as that sounds

Going for meals is the new going out, along with box sets on TV whilst stopping in with a takeaway

Half of Retford used to drink here on match day. Long walk to ground though.

I used to meet all my mates in the Five Arches,  a couple of pints then a walk down to the ground... Happy days
