2 things  on Megson -

Keith Hill comment after the Rochdale game that Megson tactics made Stoke look like Barcelona....

secondly, my sons first game was owls vs Leyton Orient and he commented 'Daddy I didn't know you had to head the ball so much to be a footballer'

After enjoying Owlstalk for a long time for the insight on club goings on, transfer speculation, matchday banter ... but then seen it taken over by trolls, doomsday merchants and Megson cult followers I couldn't keep off and finally signed up so i can throw in my 2'penneth.

I have supported the owls from wilko's days , i have seen dark days of relegation -to the highs of promotion and league cup wins - to the lows of league one and winding up orders, back to stability from Mandaric and investment from Chansiri.

Aside from the halcyon days of the 90's with Sheridan, Hirst, Waddle et al, I would say the last 3-4 years under Mandaric/Chansari and managers of Gray and then Carlos have been the best.

I just don't get all this negativity against a Chairman who has come in and really invested in the club. I think Mandaric really did understand and 'get' football and whats its all about. He did really well selling that concept to an investor like Chansiri who has came in with a lot of excitement and backed it up with investment on and off the pitch - we only have to cast our mind back to watching hoof ball on worst pitch in the league with Megson to see the improvement.

On the management side, i am not sad to see Carlos go this year, i still think he is a chancer who never knew his best side or how to  adapt to play them  I don't know who was controlling the input signing of players, if this was overseen solely by Doyen, but i think that was huge mistake in Chansari early days to sanction the loan or signatures of so many peripheral/unproven/injured players - and not even play half of them... just baffling and almost criminal waste of money.

From the chairman side, sure mistakes have been made,  I believe more from naivety than any sinister intent . I am sure he is learning now that he has to be more savvy and the addition of a CEO should help manage the club from that respect, on the pitch - hopefully sorted soon

- but I am sure that waves of negativity on social media don't help, I am bewildered someone ask refunds on season ticket ..., I would encourage everyone to take a quick reality check before hammering a chairman who has invested so much in the club for zero return. I am not saying we have to accept everything but just take a look at other teams right now who are struggling to find buyers and investors (Newcastle..), or those that have tried and failed and gone again (like Wolves).. or just gone downwards (Brum, Sunderland..)

Football is a rollercoaster, lets enjoy it and be happy we have a Chairman who is investing in us with a great squad - probably the best for 20 years.

When we start to get them back on the pitch, with a decent football manager I am sure we will return back to being a stable Championship club with 'lofty' ambitions - UTO !

Absolutely bang on, welcome to Owlstalk.

More sensible level headed people are needed on here ATM, there seems to be some right tosspots clogging up the forums lately.

Good post apart from the "Doyen conspiracy" gubbins.

Thanks

- I actually don't think there is any Doyen conspiracy either, I am just baffled who has the final say on players coming in. Why so many players got signed then never figured or went missing

- I imagine it went something like Carlos said he needs a left back , right mid and a striker and Doyen use their network to find players .... then Carlos takes a look whats available - but to get so many players and not sign them, that just wrong, not a conspiracy

Great, what we needed was another happy clapper.

I'll add some context though seen as you're new :)

You wont understand all the negativity towards the Chairman if you base your opinion on him purely on investment. I dont think anyone is holding any grudges against his financial commitment. The negativity comes from the horrendous running of the club both operationally and commercially. Id argue its the worst I have ever known it in that respect. Despite this though, I am not someone who is low enough to send nasty messages via social media. At the end of the day its not really his fault he doesnt know what hes doing and its good to see that he is getting some support. Opinions on the support he is bringing in is a whole new issue. Personally though, I'll give these people a chance.

As for the comment that he has invested so much for zero return - really? you think DC has done all this as a gesture of goodwill? Doubt it mate. If thats the case why rinse the fans with the one of  highest ticket prices  you'll find. Dont be fooled, hes making money.

You also mentioned the old days of hoofball under Megson - well that was better than what I have seen from us this season. At least Megson was playing hoofball in a lower league (not suited to the pretty passing stuff) with a team of players he'd brought in to fully utilise that strategy i.e. Lera, Reda. Yes it was pretty but it was effective.

So listen, I agree with alot of what you say and understand the sentiment but dont get fooled easily and keep the eyes open to whats really happening.

Welcome to Owlstalk!

Thanks for the welcome -

I think its about opinions, you have yours and I have mine and I respect your view - I base my opinion on a lot of things, but its still my opinion

One thing i would say - I am not an expert on accounts of SWFC - but I would have my doubts he is making money. Even at conservative estimate, players wages must be 12-15M per year alone. He has placed a bet to spend 50-60Million to get to premier league, so far its not happening - hopefully he continues to invest.

thanks again for the welcome!

Bang on

So many people have posted lengthy posts this last few weeks and all in massive chunks with no thought for the return key/enter button

Glad you spotted this as it's annoyed me

Maybe you need some kind of entry test before allowing people to join the site?

Perhaps a basic grammar test nabbed from the SATs or the eleven plus, followed by a few suitability questions such as:

  1. Ozzie, Ollie, Barney - shag, marry, kill?
  2. What does 'Consilio Et Animis' mean?
  3. Estimate Kieran Lee's height to the nearest inch.
  4. If a current Wednesday player were to replace you at work for the day, who would do the best job and why?
  5. Home shorts - black, blue or white?

Can't be cheap for Mr Chansiri

I'd bet he's losing something mad like £1million per month looking at the players we have and everything else

Be interesting to see sometime

You spelled Conlisio incorrectly.
