Venancio certainly doesn't look good enough for this league, Fox certainly isint, van Akens struggling. The whole defence at the minute is shambolic and all boils down to poor recruitment. Right now Lees when fit is the only defender I'd  say doesn't need upgrading.

 

 

 

It all boils down to our failed transfer strategy of the last 18 months. 

 

I'm hopeful van Aken will be good long term, but we knew Loovens was reaching the end of his career and should have brought van Aken or his equivalent in a year sooner than we did, I'm which case he'd be a lot more ready to step up now. 

 

We know Hutch has biscuit knees and a few red cards in him, but we've failed to bring in another defensive mid as cover/competition. 

 

We did an least bring a successor for Pudil in with Fox, but he's not been as good as 2015-16 Pudil so even that's been a step backwards.

The goal exposes the team's weakness as everyone's commented. For it to be against a team at the bottom of the league, and at home, is more concerning as it suggests we could more vulnerable against better teams over the next four months if something - player recruitment/getting injured players back/new manager with clearer set up or instructions coming in isn't done.

 

We saw some of this with Brookes at Hillsborough in September - team like the pigs will note our static and indecisive players and ruthlessly expose us if we are not careful. maybe we just need numbers in key areas if we can't get the players in there we want/need. Either way, we need to plug these gaps quickly.
