To be fair to AVB, his win percentage at Tottenham was 55%. Third highest in their history (and currently marginally higher than Potch).

Where is Carlos on our list of managers..? Stats don't always paint the full picture. AVB football would be as ponderous as Carlos'. We need a change in philosophy; more offensive, dynamic, and physical.

Mr Chansiri....or whoever reads Owlstalk on your behalf.....we don't need a 'sexy' manager. We need an experienced, tough, proven manager who has kept clubs in this Division and got promoted from it. We need someone that will play attacking football and get the fans behind him. We need someone who has the knowledge and contacts to STOP YOU WASTING YOUR MONEY by building a team that has a mix of experience and younger, up and coming players who will have sell on value. Paul Lambert fits this bill.....stop dicking about chasing unattainable, money-chasing 'names' and get him in while the January window can still help us.

Agreed, I'd also ask serious questions of a manager who quits his job to take part in a motor race... seriously, what's all that about??

Appointing him would be a very very expensive mistake.

Making expensive mistakes lies at the very heart of what we're about.

It's how we roll.

What we don't know about wasting money ain't worth knowing.

We'd even put Sheffield City Council to shame.

It comes as naturally to us as breaking and entering does to a Blades fan. lol

This (alleged) "sexy" name obsession from Mr Chansiri gets right on my wick!!!

If it was April and we sat safely in midtable then I could stomach it. But it's the turn of the year, we are in shocking form and the caretaker has all but admitted he's not up to the job.

Time to stop fannying around and get a bloke in ASAP who can sort this all out!

FFS

Absolutely no argument from me, mate. I'm hoping we'll get someone in this week, let them get a feel for the squad at Carlisle, because BL will be a baptism of fire.

Plus each day we delay is a day lost to the new manager to get new faces in, ship old ones out, etc.

Not many of these merry go round experienced British managers have done it recently For the most part, it’s been foreigners with little or no experience in the championship, who have impressed

Also, packing our squad with experienced championship players, hasn’t exactly served us well has it

We need to appoint the best manager we can get, whether he’s experienced, or not, British or overseas

AVB struggled in English football. Pressure at Chelsea was too great. At Spurs. I remember the Bale money being squandered, and he loaded up on defensive mids and no.10s. Very turgid football. Carlos MKII. No ta, keep ya fancy name.

I think he’d be a poor appointment in the cold light of day. I cant base it on his stats or anything like that, just that he is generally used to having money to spend and players who are usually technically better than most others in the respective league.

Just had a really very positive chat with a Wolves fan. He thinks Lambert was good for them and shafted by the owners. He played positive football and Ges would have him back anytime.

Thanks that’s quite interesting as backs up my feeling that the wolves fans who were happy to see lambert leave were likely distracted by his Villa connection and not what he actually achieved for them.  Plus they had the excitement of the owners spending money so probably were looking forward to a “big name” appointment instead.

I hope Chansiri is seriously thinking about hiring him, if a suitable “big name” doesn’t want our job anytime soon

Quote
Dan: initial memories were bad although on reflection he was a good manager as he took us (Wycombe) to the league cup semis where I got to watch both legs live, and got us to the playoffs but after missing out he walked out and ended up at one of our largest Conference rivals Colchester which didn't help our memories. So good manager but too ambitious so will walk out when something better comes along.

With respect, we are Sheffield Wednesday, not friggin Wycombe Wanderers Also, as much as he did OK (ish) at Wolves, it wasn’t until they got serious and appointed a quality coach, that they started to look like a side that could get promotion

Tbf, Wolves are positioning themselves as a loanee repository for continental powers.  Lambert was never going to be the best option for that kind of directive.

Actually, his first job was to save a side from relegation:

Académica[edit]

At the start of the 2009–10 season, Villas-Boas left Mourinho's team to pursue a career as a manager, and he soon found a job in the Primeira Liga with Académica de Coimbra, filling a vacancy created by Rogério Gonçalves' resignation in October 2009.[15][16] At the time of his appointment, Académica were at the bottom of the league and still without any wins, but their luck started to change as he introduced a new style, leading them to a safe 11th place, ten points clear of the relegation zone. In addition to that, Académica also reached the 2009–10 Portuguese League Cup semi-finals, losing against Porto at the Estádio do Dragão to a late goal from Mariano González. His impact at Académica was immediate, not only because of solid results, but also because of the attractive football displayed by the team, which led to intense media speculation linking him with the vacant jobs at Sporting CP and FC Porto in the summer of 2010.[15]

Obviously, we're hardly likely to get him, but you never know.

Spot On ptp!  Looking at Lambert's record, he does appear to be the best of those available.  Seems to have the capability to keep the club in this division for now and to mount a serious promotion push next season.  There aren't many  other truly inspiring names on the horizon and Paul Lambert does have a record of achievement.  Go for it Mr Chansiri before it's too late!
