Ducking under that cross made my opinion up of him.

It’s got to the point, where keeping him in the side, is really upsetting the balance of the side Perhaps not so much when we are without Hooper, but we cannot keep playing him just because he cost so much

A front three of Joao, Hooper and Forestieri, in my opinion, would be far more effective Whatever happens, we have to abandon the 4-4-2 system

We have recently played a few variations of the 451. Trouble is we haven’t got the wide players or the striker to do it justice. João, if and it’s a big if could get anywhere near the level of his Arsenal performance would be the answer to the lone striker. A fit FF would be ideal on the left, we don’t seem to trust Matais(sp?) to give him a run in his preferred position on the right so at the moment we’d need three new players to do the system justice. Funnily enough we’ve needed the same requirements / players since the playoff defeat to Hull.

It was a real concern how comfortably the Burton defenders were handling Rhodes.

Then big Dave came on and caused them real problems.

if Sunderland really want Rhodes - we have to cut our losses and let him go.  Nice guy, worked hard but ineffective.

Yes, the pathetic defending, lack of calmness on the ball, rubbish boots from the back or midfield and no link up play or support in the box are Rhodes fault?!?

Agreed his finish was poor, but it's not like there were any other opportunities when he was marked 4 on 1 in the box and total garbage balls sent in!

He had three chances laid on a platter for him on Saturday - neshed one all-together, headed the best straight at the keeper and drew a half-decent save with the third. I've come to the conclusion he's our worst striker, any of the others would have at least grabbed one.

Guest Fletchers head guard

If anyone thinks Rhodes isn’t one of our worst signings in a while than they are quite simply, wrong.

Whoever had the final say in his signing clearly did not do their homework, he couldn't get a game at Middlesbrough and we stump up a record fee and there were plenty on here pushing the signing

This situation reminds me a lot of stevie mays nightmare here, we were all hyped when he first came then we was all let down by his performances.

Not read it all so don't know if anyone said it but what do's me with him is no matter how bad the ball into him is he puts a thumb up or claps, he's garage atm.

As they say "form is temporary but class is permanent".  His confidence is clearly absolutely shot at the moment, how the hell he gets it back other than scoring I have no idea but it is one of the main challenges for the new manager.  Be interesting to know if he scores many in training.

Not the right thread but my take on Monday:

  • Expecting a bid from Swansea for Joao, and of the 11 on the pitch the only other two who looked like Championship footballers were Reach and Wildsmith.

  • Picking Jones and Butterfield in midfield and then adding to it by not pulling one of them after 20 mins, what was that all about ?

  • Championship football cannot be played at the tempo we try to play at, you can see the interceptions/mistakes coming. They  tap to each other so slowly with seemingly no awareness or the opposition closing them down. Do they close down at pace in training ?

  • I can't remember seeing us playing that badly in 2010 (which is really worrying).

Probably, they are similar players and are always likely to struggle at this level The quality in the championship has improved hugely in the last 2 or 3 years The championship, when Rhodes was last prolific, was more akin to the current First Division That is now the level for Rhodes
