Having steered Mr C and Carlos in the direction we thought things should go, we now have a responsibility to see things through and make it work. Abandoning all hope is no good for anyone. It puts us in the same territory as players giving up the ghost. Come on Owls, we’re made of stronger stuff than this. Let’s get the ball rolling in our favour again by staying positive, and showing some trust in our Chairman for now. In one month’s time, we will have some evidence to suggest the likely direction of travel. There still remains a possibility our Chairman fully intends to make amends for his lack of football knowledge and mistakes he’s made, and which he has already owned up to. What do you say about trusting our Chairman to put those mistakes right. If in one month’s time, nothing positive seems to have transpired, and if we continue on a downward spiral, there will then be good cause for concern. Let’s try this patience thing for a bit longer. Whilst appreciating the sentiment and desperately hoping your optimism is well founded - trust has to be earned. So far there is absolutely nothing that makes me trust the powers that be at the moment.
adelphi1867
37 minutes ago, StudentOwl said: This is perhaps the biggest month Wednesday will have in a very, very long time We have a squad of aging, overpaid players with little-to-no resale value... no manager... a CEO whose only previous record in England is to rip out the soul of a football club... rock bottom morale... a chairman who keeps promising the world with quite frankly ludicrous sounding manager names and beautiful green fields of jolly goodness just around the corner. We stand at a crossroads. To one side we have DC fulfilling his promise of a huge manager name, reaffirming his commitment to us with the best intentions and hopefully the start of repairing the damage the last few months of awful mismanagement has left us in. To the other is DC's words simply being empty promises he can't possibly follow up on in order to placate fans a little longer, with no big name being appointed and simply a "yes man" joining. This way spells doom and will surely be a sign of the beginning of the end as DC looks to asset strip and get back some of his investment before leaving the ship he allowed to start sinking before all the liferafts go. This might sound a little dramatic but I truly believe this is where we lie. Make no mistake, the next couple of weeks are going to be some of the most important in recent Sheffield Wednesday history. They will be indicative of what path we start going down. And frankly I'm terrified about what might happen. Because I really think if we choose the latter path than the former, anyone thinking "it won't be that bad" is fooling themselves, because we have got a lot of essentially dead assets on a lot of money. We've all seen the demise of big clubs crashing down through the leagues due to mismanagement, and anyone who thinks we're not on the precipice of having all the hallmarks of those types of clubs is sticking their heads in the sand. The mismanagement of the club has been going on for the last 5 decades, not just the last 6 months. Look at the Stadium, it's a shed compared to other clubs and doesn't bring in any money apart from match day. The academy is only now showing any benefits, Decades behind Barnsley and the Blunts. The catering side is only now just beginning to improve. The playing surface only just brought into the 21st century. Blame DC for the last 6 months, yes, not the Historical mismanagement of the club. Edited January 1, 2018 by adelphi1867

spike1867
Probably already said but I wonder if Morgan Fox had words with his team mates about his experiences with the new CEO. Would go a long way to explain the performance today. Most are probably fearing the worst. They've gone from their comfy lives under CC to probably wanting out of the club ASAP. Theres sod all we can do about players who won't run, can't tackle, can't pass the ball 10 bloody yards....25'000 there...Who's given up? Bar the actors onstage? You can sell them on even if it means subsidising their wages. Put some on the market and it should focus a few minds. It's been too easy for some of them , they are too comfortable, a good shake up is needed but there is still the nucleus of a squad there. Let's get rid of the notion that we don't sell players. Anybody who is involved with football and refers to fans as CUSTOMERS is not somebody I want near my club. OK can I be devil's advocate. She's a lawyer, the law doesn't recognise fans as such, legally when you buy a ticket or merchandise the law considers you as a customer, you have the same legal rights as a customer*. She wasn't a football specialist and English isn't her first language maybe she used 'customer' in the legal sense. If she was a PR person she would have known better. I doubt she will make the same mistake again. I would suggest we reserve judgement and judge her on what she does at Hillsborough not what went before. * After todays performance maybe we should demand a refund under The Consumer Rights Act as that performance wasn't fit for purpose and barely deserved to be called football. What about we wait to see what happens in January first? It’s possible we might bring in a big name manager, and might bring in some quality players the new man wants to work with. We’ll undoubtedly need to offload some players too, and perhaps the new CEO is needed to lessen the burden on Mr C in terms of making all this happen quickly. I would imagine that spare CEOs are a bit thin on the ground, maybe she was the only one available? I’d say give it another month first, then we’ll have a better idea on the way things are heading. I left the game 10 minutes early today which is unusual for me. i have then sat in car 3.5 hours to drive home so had time to think about this. Think you are correct the appointment is probably to remove him from some of blame when things go wrong. He was clearly annoyed when Cc left for his prearranged job and had to take some action. Therefore CEO appointed to seperate him from some of decisions so someone else can take flak, and also so he does not get friendly with boss and lets heart rule head in his decision making. It may be that he also wanted to put some distance between advisors and him self. If he wanted someone who would give unpopular news and a skin like a rhino he has probably found correct person. She made some shocking decisions early in reign and alienated herself from many at Charlton if she has learned she may not make same mistake again. Big problem was coaches were appointed who had no idea of English football and recruitment of players from abroad was abysmal as they could not perform in English game. It is essential we have a manager who understands English leagues as recruitment is urgently needed, the team also needs to be got fit for league urgently. Three games in proximity show they do not have basic level of fitness for league. Where I differ from owlsman completely is we do not have a month, anyone who saw us play today will know that. i am not sure if Owlsman went but that was not just a poor performance. Bullen said new coach was required immediately he was correct.
Guest Willow Owl
Great Post Owlsman. I for one am still totally behind the chairman. He bought the club with the intention of getting us to the promised land. It so far hasn't worked out so we are now in transition with a new manager imminent. He has reaffirmed his commitment numerous times and even had the ask the chairman, a chance for fans to get answers to their concerns. He answered every question but still people do not believe him and I now read threads and posts that we are going back to days of Dave Allen, he is incompetent and the club is a joke. He has made mistakes but has all been to try and generate more turnover for the club. He has been accused of being a dictator and he needs help. He brings in a CEO and gets accused of putting the club up for sale. After his major financial investment in our club he deserves respect and the chance to put things right. Not verbal abuse and belittling. People need to seriously think before they post utter tripe. Opinions fine, abuse no.

theowlsman
Oh yeah, and at Christmas, Mr C was still here, in our community, helping out at the Children’s Hospital, with a clear message that he was still part of our family. That was no message that he was quitting any time soon.

I'd expect to see less and less of DC at Hillsborough from now on, that's why she's been brought in, you got to read between the lines. Just not sure where we'll finish up now. Can't really blame DC, he's had himself and his family attacked on social media, whatever he does he gets criticised for, never gets any credit, lost his best mate last week and probably feels all alone. Stoop
Good to have a positive thread, as people are too quick to demand everything be ripped up and started again The facts are- we have 11 first team players out, Wolves and Derby would struggle in the same circumstances CC has left a squad that is absolutely demoralised CC has left a squad that is completely unfit for the rigorous championship season We have a talented squad, we just need a few additions and some confidence putting into the lads and we’ll be firing again
