Players "faking" unfitness

how come they aren't fit yet?

I have felt this for quite some time unfortunately. Players nowadays are too mollycoddled and happy to sit around on their collective arses feigning injury, as another 30,000 pounds plops into each of their bank accounts.. easy money. There's no heart or desire there anymore. It's years since I last saw a Mick Lyons-type attitude in a player who would play through the pain barrier and make those around him do likewise... then do it all again the next match..

According to Fred Eyre, a commentator once announced on live radio that a player "has just pished a fatness test".

From the look of those pictures after the Forest match, several of our players are doing that right now!

I’m pretty sure that most lads would want to play, even through minor ailments - but players like Kieran Lee/Hutch are likely to be a little more cautious in coming back too soon.

They’ve both had a lot of issues in recent seasons - obviously Hutch has had it his whole career -

so perhaps they need to feel totally fit before coming back into the first team.

It can be frustrating for us to watch, but those guys have to look ahead too. You don’t want to be 40, retired and no ability to walk properly. They could be being told anything from specialists.

The thing is the game has changed. Footballers are more like athletes these days and don't have to be built to cope with physical contact anymore because it's more or less been taken out of the game. Fitness levels now are a lot higher than they used to be and the slightest pull or strain rules em out for weeks. It is the same for all clubs but we do seem to have an alarming injury list and l know concern has been raised about our training or lack of training routines.

always said if a players injured over a period of time ,say a month or over .they should have their wage halved or not paid at all, theyd be motivated to return then.

They'd be motivated to sign for another club instead of whoever was trying to write that clause into their contracts!

The vast majority of players want to play football but don't want to be forced back from injury too early and risk more serious long-term issues. Telling a player who's battling serious injury that he won't be getting paid would be horrendous practice.

Well if players are leggy after a 4 day rest, I really wonder what we can look forward to against the might of Burton after a 2 day break?

Strange how we seem to be affected more than most especially given our slow, sleep inducing tempo for much of the season. One conclusion, they are simply not fit enough.
