Joao Goal

Recommended Posts

He took his chance really well today (was unlucky a few mins earlier)

(remember thinking he’d be a definite talent after his header v Arsenal in League Cup)

It may be that CC never backed him and even though ‘2 swallows don’t a summer make’, he seems such a naturally talented footballer that he should be on the field.

With our lack of pace, he should be one of the first names on the team sheet This finish, and the one against the pigs, were beautifully taken finishes, the sort of finishes none of our other front players are capable of When you throw in the other stuff he brings to the table, only Forestieri delivers more

Hoops scored a few beauties too

Totally agree. I always thought that, given our chronic lack of pace, another manger would make use of Joao. Simply can't get away with having no pacey players in a side.

There’s truth in what you say, I won’t deny that However, all Hooper’s other partners have been equally ineffective My feeling is, had we persisted with Joao, he might well have been a major talent by now Those other players aren’t gonna get better, Joao just might

This is true but sadly I think they have all been used in a way hat doesn't make the most of their strengths this season.

Fletcher - a decent target man and someone who can help get Hooper on the ball, good a scoring headed goals - trouble is when we do cross it is from deep rather than getting to the byline making it harder to score direct from and as we don't get numbers into the box he is often outnumbered.

Rhodes - largely ineffective down the channels or in slow build-up play, comes alive in the box with clever movement - certainly doesn't relate to how we have been playing.

Nuhiu - not as good in the air as he should be but better with his feet than he is given credit for. Not a clinical finisher by any means but can occupy defenders and bring others into play. His goals per game record will never look good but looks worse due to the fact that before his recent games he had been sparingly used as someone to bring on and waste time/keep the ball in the corner rather than looking to score.

Joao - A raw talent who has only largely been used in the last 2 seasons as a sub when chasing a game and so the pressure on him to make an instant impact is heightened. He has also often been used out of position. Did OK for a struggling Blackburn side last season and clearly has goal scoring ability, needs to improve on his strength and decision making.

Hopefully whoever does take over will be able to get more out of all of our options but as you say Joao is the one with time on his side.
