Little mentioned amateur goalkeeper for Wednesday made his debut this day 60 years ago in a 4-3 away defeat at Wolves (:-0)

 

Must confess I had to google him and quite an interesting character - wondered who was the last amateur player who turned out for the Wednesday 1st team.

 

The beginning of the match report sounds like he'd never met, let alone played with, his Wednesday team mates before ( could have fitted in well to the 2017 team )

 

Ironic for harry Gregg if he'd signed for Wednesday he would, presumably, not been on that ill-fated plane at Munich !

Didn't Trevor Pearson play as an amateur back in 1972?

Correct Played regularly for Woodseats WMC in the 1st Division of Sheffield Sunday Regional League. Made his first of 4 appearances in a 4-0 defeat at Fulham. Conceded 8 in those four appearances and was never on the winning side.

think pinner shipped 21 goals in the 5 games he played .........never knew we nearly bought  harry Gregg and good job we didn't as no doubt we wouldn't have signed  the great man if we had .
