The last few weeks of George Hirst

Mid December and only a few weeks left of George Hirst at Sheffield Wednesday before he moves to Leicester City.

What a sad story this has been with an upcoming star banging in goals in any team he's played in, against any opposition of any age, and at international level too.

Let's just look at that again. He's been put in front of players older than himself and still smashed goals in. he's been called up to the England side (when was the last time we could say that?) and smashed in goals at international level with ease.

The son of a Sheffield Wednesday legend.

A home grown talent rising through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday at an academy that struggles to give us players for the first team or to sell on at a huge profit.

The scene was set for George Hirst to work his way up through the teams at Sheffield Wednesday to lead the club to success as the blue and white runs through his veins.

Instead we have a first team tumbling down the Championship with no parachute, a head coach confused by the whole scenario, a 150th Anniversary Year that is looking like being one of our most tragic in years, an overpriced anniversary watch that was oversold so buyers had to have refunds, an extremely expensive anniversary picture that had the player names printed the wrong way round on it, no big pre-season friendly of any note, players getting signed to the club then going missing and fans wondering if/when we will ever see them play, reports of players falling out with the head coach, ticket prices going bonkers and the chairman having to apologise for pricing fans out but still keeping the prices as they are, traditional blue and white stripes being taken off home shirts (and then sold with some bizarre far east sizing in the shop), away shirts still don't exist in real life, home shirts being given an introductory price for longer than a DFS sale, a commemorative third shirt designed by a fan to celebrate the 150th Anniversary that still hasn't been released, a bizarre 'Christmas tree' wigwam teepee thing erected outside the 'megastore' that up until recently was still selling playoff final commemorative t-shirts, a 150th Anniversary Year that will be remembered as being represented by a collapsing cake, the newly released home shirts selling out in most sizes ahead of Christmas and even more bizarrely the megastore staff telling fans they have no idea if/when theyll be back on sale, empty executive boxes and sponsors who have walked away angrily, perimeter advertising boards that make the football impossible to see without being distracted, a brand new old club badge that nobody asked for, and much much much more

(note also that I've not mentioned Doyen in the above either)

And in the meantime fans argue with each other about George Hirst (some choosing to trust the people who gave us all the above over a fellow Sheffield Wednesday fan and an all time Sheffield Wednesday legend thanks to a well timed PR press release Q&A with the Chairman).

A young lad who every single Sheffield Wednesday fan should be urging on to stay at the club and work his way up to the number 9 shirt in the first team

Why?

Because right now he's pretty much the only thing left about our Sheffield Wednesday that is recognisable, that is ours, and that represents hope to not just fans but to all young players at the academy, all of whom have their contracts ending in the summer.

Any fans yelling for George Hirst to clear off needs to stop for a second and just think about the wider implications of this move and what it really truly represents.

With all the money that has been literally p1.ssed up the wall at this club over the last 3 seasons either commercially, on no show transfers or on players that are not championship standard - this episode is absolutely criminal.

Makes you wonder if some of the people running the club aren't United supporters.

So tragic, this upsets me more than the season we're having.

I don't know if any genuine fans are wanting him to clear off. How great would it have been to see George Hirst scoring for us in the Championship?

A friend of mine had a chat with David Hirst at a recent Chesterfield match. Hirst said he always loved Wednesday but right now he wouldn't care if were relegated.....ouch that hurts.

DC just doesn't get it.

The club was fair to George. Unfortunately he wasn't.

I still want him to do well, but even if he does he'll be about as likable as Cashley Cole.

Possibly, but I am sure he would have been a safer bet than on other 'investments' made on players over the last 3 seasons to go that extra mile....

This is the problem though, fans are thinking with their heart. Hanging onto this idea that Hirst is will come into the squad and score for fun...”imagine seeing Hirst on the score sheet again”

David Hirst was my hero like everyone else’s. But that shouldn’t mean the club roll over.

Its an argument about money I’d imagine...this is as much Hirsts problem as it is the clubs.

OP is being disingenuous to suggest the club have stitched Hirst up in the latest QA. Let’s remember the Hirst camp went to the media first.

Let’s also remember he’s unproven at a senior level, and does anyone really believe he’ll get any more luck infront of goal than Fletcher, Rhodes, Hooper et al aren’t getting?

I want Hirst to sign and continue his development with SWFC. I don’t dislike him, but I am getting bored of the subject.

Me too, but it’s all part of the shambolic way our club is being run

No doubt. Chasing money at 18 though it's a very young age to be displaying such an awful personality trait.

You could have saved yourself a lot of typing and just put "What do you think about George Hirst"

It will still make 50 pages

The above is a damning indictment of the way our club is being run - and hardly any of that is down to Carlos.
