Is our season over already?

Recommended Posts

I’ve had the feeling for a while that season feels like it’s just drifting away, I can’t see any improvement week on week.

The players are looking like they don’t know what theyre doing and even Bannan suggested in a recent interview that they don’t know what style of football to play. That should speak volumes about the current state of the first team. Yesterday a lot of the players looked disinterested and had the body language that they didn’t want to be there.

It would take a miraculous second half of the season to make the play offs and quite frankly can anyone see that happening. Carlos will leave at the end of the season, unless we get promoted, so do we need to start planning for next year?

Is it a write off or do we give him the rest of the season? Or do we bring in someone now who can start looking at the team and would effectively have 2 transfer windows to get a team ready for next season?

There's zero indication or likelihood that he's going to change things round and suddenly hit automatic promotion form which we'll practically need just to get into the playoffs now.

There's therefore absolutely no sense in saying let's keep him until the summer and then get rid, we'll have wasted the six months in which a new manager could come in and start assessing the squad and changing this godawful "style" of play.

Our season is far from over .....with the run we're on and the teams coming up we are now fighting to avoid dropping into the bottom three

It's an interesting one isn't it - DC relying on CC to avoid relegation - wonder if that is in his targets.

Hope not, I'll admit to having stood in Carlos's corner longer than most but now believe the players will only get a lift from hearing a new voice and different tactics, as I've said previously DC is becoming more of a worry with his lack of clear and decisive leadership

Promotion is gone.

10 points is a bigger enough gap to make up regardless. But there's now 8 teams (a third of the league) between us and the playoff places. That's our biggest challenge.

Closing a 10 point gap would be challenging enough if we we're in 7th position, but we need to achieve that, AND hope that one side from eight teams currently above us don't achieve that also.

There was an opportunity a month ago, where promotion was still very much on the cards, if we got rid and hit the ground running with a new manager. That opportunity has now gone. Sack Carlos, and take our time ensuring we get the right man, and give him half a season, with no pressure, to slowly implement his style of play on the players.

In the meantime however, if this run continues for a few more games, we could very easily become embroiled in a relegation battle. That should be our main concern currently. The word promotion shouldn't even be uttered.

From a promotion point of view yes but we could be drawn into relegation struggle. Think the is a distinct possibility if current incumbent not removed quickly. We have struggled against all the poor teams in league and chances are those in top half will have momentum when we play them and CC has just lost it.

Yes the season is likely over assuming we have enough to avoid relegation.

We are best removing the coach, retaining bullen as a caretaker perhaps helped out by someone with experience like Brian laws or perhaps roeder returning on the training pitch. Avoid spending in January whilst trying to trim the squad at the same time.

We use the time between now and end of the season to source a coach for next season, with them helping behind the scenes with target identification before taking charge in June.

It's a good point that - we really need him in the country explaining the future vision - short, medium and long.

This season we just need to stabilise and keep in this division because yesterday we looked like a team who easily crumble.

Medium term - 2018/19 season needs to be planned, and i hope he's looking for a successor right now so we have an appointment no later than the end of April (i don't even care if it's announced whilst CC's still in charge),

Long term - he needs to reevaluate his strategy for investment. Before looking at a relatively low income fan base, start shifting out some high-paid players and bring in hungry ones on half their salaries - this FFP is sometimes a convenient smoke screen to hide behind IMO.

Exactly. We're relying on so many teams suffering a loss of form during the same period that we need to go on a winning run which has looked beyond us all season long.

The manager and players' continued discussion of promotion in the press are making them look ridiculous.
