modboy
Why do we struggle doing the basics of passing, shooting, winning the second ball, defending, crossing, dribbling, running fast . Unbelievable really for a squad like ours

Fletcher; a striker in his own half attempting a 25 yard back pass to one of our technically inept centre halts. Sums us up. Ironman
Constant individual errors, players always looking backwards as soon as they receive the ball, no movement off the ball, slow to react to any situation, zero pace or physicality, poor decision making... The list is endless. We keep the ball neatly and that's it. That's our game, its what we are all about. Slow, possession football. Its infuriating to watch as these teams are there to be beaten. When we push on, usually only in desperation, things happen. Time and time again Ipswich turned defence into attack and created chances. We just don't do that. A hollow point. Games like this are killing us.

Games like this are killing us. These are two sides of the same coin and the absolute crux of what's holding us back IMO. We play *so* reactively it's untrue. Every player waiting to see what happens before they jump. If I had to pick a single key gripe with CC, it's too much football theory, not enough gut feeling. WayneTheOwl
7-8 times first half we failed to pass to our own player who was within 5-10 yards. Absolutely abysmal.

Could understand if Hunt was totally out of position but he wasn't. Aside from that I don't think the players really know what they are supposed to be doing any more. Unless we are behind or it is the last 5 minutes the players don't know how to attack. It is pathetic. Loovens slows the play down by waiting until he is closed down before passing virtually every time. Lees was at least trying to play the ball forward at times. The default pass is backwards and I think this is so ingrained into the players that it is difficult for them to change unless the situation is completely unambiguous ie. when we need to score and sharpish. modboy
Hunt summed it up at the end shooting when we had players well positioned for a cross , plus he was lucky not to be sent off. Both full backs are nowhere near the quality needed

Unfortunately, they're doing exactly what they're asked to do by Carlos; this nullifies all of they're creativity. They warm up doing the same pass along the back, play the ball down the wing and cross every game beforehand. They then just repeat this on loop during the game. Teams can easily suss us out. Personally, I think this is why Forestieri makes us better because he doesn't follow this plan and drives us down the middle sometimes and mixes it up. It gives the more creative players a chance to flourish too instead of them just passing backward or out to the wing.

Forestieri has to play down the left and be relieved of some defensive responsibilities. Anything else is a total waste. He gets bullied up front and why would we leave out two of Rhodes Fletcher and Hooper in order to play Reach down the left and make FF a punchbag for the centre backs. In any case Reach is more effective coming forward from left back.

Ronnie Starling
Its comical that us mere posters and fans have the audacity to question the coaching and footballing brains of our coaches and footballers. However watching this overpaid squad of misfits that seem unable to do the basics week in week out I think we are justified in our criticisms. Footballers who are unable to pass a ball, mark a player, get into position, react to a second ball, hit the target, throw a ball to a player in a SWFC shirt, take a set piece without hitting the first man or see the ball sail through to the back of the box, control a ball. A coach that doesnt seem to have a clue how to set a team to go out and attack, be able to sign players that will improve the team or improve players he already has. We wont get promoted with this head coach or with the likes of Hunt, Loovens, Pudil, Lees, Fox, Lee, Butterfield, Jones, Rhodes, Fletcher, Wallace, Nuhiu. They simply are not good enough to make the step up and we better start to realise that whatever Carlos says about promotion its all hype. 150th year of this football clubs history and tradition has really turned out to be a complete joke. The tactics are getting in the way of us being successful.
