Not putting labels on anybody.  I’m not saying it’s all Australians who behave that way. Just too many of the ones I have met. Simply putting forward my experiences. And my experiences are far from unique. It was a very common complaint when I lived in London, and when I have traveled in Asia. Sorry if you are offended but take it up with the Australian Ex-patriots and tourists who do their country such a disservice.

Hi...I'm the born & bred Sheffielder who some people assume to be Australian but hey, that aside...I think it's unfortunate that Aussies you've met leave you with the impression that they are racist, my experience of Aussies is a bit different, in the years I've been here I've met thousands of Australians, overwhelming majority of which come across as not being racist, sure there are those that are, I think the same could probably be said for most nations around the world, I'm guessing of course but that seems to be the nature of our globe in general.

The number of replies in this thread trying everything they can to argue for racism tells you just how far we have to go in order to eradicate it completely

Nobody, at least i hope nobody is arguing for racism?

When you have the BBC broadcasting Clarkson commenting on a 'slope' on a makeshift ferry you could summise that the establishment is racist to the core but this isn't necessarily so.

My point is that could easily have been an 'innocent' oversight or an unintended ambiguity.

Take away any form of tenuous racism and you take away many forms of comedy and would probably see the end of shows like Live at the Apollo.

Even Omid Djalili uses it in a self depracating way but it's still using racism for comedy.

You don't have to call someone a P***, N****r, Paddy or N*p to be racist, you can comment in a derogatory way upon one's beliefs or culture to offend.

You can take away any reference of the terms and name calling many posters have written here but racism, or peoples differing perception of it or the excuse to become outraged by it will still exist.

So I'm afraid it will never be eradicated completely, not in our lifetime, but it is ten times better than it used to be in the 70s and 80s.

“Mind your language” was the turning point. The programme was so sh!t, that type of thing had to be stopped  lol

It will just be ushered underground and behind closed doors.

Disagree

This generation of mad racists who were effectively educated by the Sun and Daily Mirror and their parents will die out

Schools these days teach children to respect others no matter how different and children are way wiser (and don't read tabloids)

Quite true (last line)

But if we think it will die out we're kidding ourselves on.

Racisim is learnt. Kids aren't rascist. Toddlers aren't rascist.

It is picked up in the home and  unless these mad racisits you speak of that read the Sun stop having children  (and without getting into a Social and economical Geography debate - that is very unlikely) ....I supsect it will carry on.

Other racist thoughts and negative predudices can be picked up in first hand personal life experience and then magnify through isolation.... and are sadly, passed on.

An Australian pal made me smile after being told on his first day in the UK, to stand outside a covered bus stop in the pouring rain after he quite sensibly attempted to double up the existing queue and stay under cover. He told the complainant that “One Pom is fine, two and you have the makings of a bloody queue”.

WTF:

Nailed on he is one of the Neanderthals who sit on the end of the north pointing and grunting at the away fans .

That is prejudice. Judging everyone who sits/stands in a particular area of the ground and labelling them.

SWFC have a zero tolerance policy on all forms of prejudice.

In the interests of fairness, you should be banned for life.

Or maybe your ignorance needs educating?

It's an interesting point, though - as very young children we notice difference and comment on it; hopefully, parenting is good enough to tell the very young that this is nothing of which to be afraid. If this isn't the case, then problematic attitudes may arise.

Just because you don’t give a bobbar about racism doesn’t mean other people don’t. I feel now I could take an Asian friend to a match because THAT song has disappeared - or I thought it had.  Exposing them to that would be horrendous.

I would you suggest you read my other posts on the thread before you arbitrarily decide what I do or do not give a s H*t  about mate...

I would take your Asian friend to Hillsborough without hesitation, because sometimes folk can recognise a bloody idiot from a mile off simply by what he's singing or chanting, and they are intelligent enough to understand its ignorance.

Maybe your Asian friend could then make his own mind up mate eh?.

Soz..

The song has disappeared from matches. The odd idiot may be bearable - but still uncomfortable. Thankfully the days when it was sung by hundreds have gone.

I think you need to re-read the whole post. You’ll then realise I was talking about the reactions of people on here.

I dread to think what you think a murderer or a peadophile is in terms of serious offending.

You’ve clearly lived a very sheltered life if you think it was a high level of offending.

The blokes done wrong, been caught and got his deserved punishment... but let’s stone the c##t to death instead.

I enjoy a constructive reasoned argument but if you have reduced your contribution to mere gainsay and profanity then it is evident you have little more to offer. As for your continual reference as to what I think, maybe you should concentrate on your own shortcomings before denegrading my comment. Your attempt at reply is becoming quite tedious and therefore I shall conclude with the following thought which you may wish to consider:-

In order to challenge the specific content or definition within argument, it is necessary to make inference and in doing so to introduce the ‘ REDUCTIO AD ABSURDUM’ theory.

Big Ron - don’t forget classics such as ‘Love thy neighbour, ‘Till death us do Part’ and God knows what poor old Charlie Williams had to endure.

Dont know how that contributes to the argument but it’s all you’ve got left- ha ha!! You have nothing else to offer but personal attacks. Nothing constructive, nothing original, no ingenuity. You’re down and out. Does anyone of intellect really care about an arbitrary rating anyway- it’s the quality NOT the quantity. Won’t be wasting anymore time as previously mentioned.

You just have.

The thing is you can use your fancy words but still can’t make out my original post. Plenty of others have understood where I’m coming from. However you’ve picked bits from it that suited yourself instead of the whole post and took them out of context.

You can bang on about intellectuality, clearly you have a chip on your shoulder about your education or up bringing and feel that makes you a superior person.
