Loovens will hopefully come straight back into the starting lineup when fit to give the lad a break. Can't get behind this. Van Aken is the only CB we have that can do anything with the ball. I'm fine with him being less adept at pure defending as long as he keeps getting the ball forward like he has been doing. Or, as another poster suggested, move him up and play him as a defensive and holding midfielder instead of Jones. shezzas left peg
As others have alluded to. Would fit in brilliantly to a back three in the centre of defence with lees n Loovens or hutch either side for their defensive stability. This also suits hunt and reach better as they are good going forward, but do tend to get cought out defending at times and the extra cover of three CB's would work really well. We played some good stuff today, can't fault it, but IMO if Carlos could find it in him to be less rigid 4-4-2 and try to utilise a 5-3-2 on occasions for example playing away against the good sides in the championship were he feels were more suited to defend to get a result it would give us a plan B and tactical variety that always playing 4-4-2 doesn't bring. Eastleigh Owl
I reckon he'll be a great signing, he is work in progress though at the moment, got turned inside out again today. He's at a good place with Loovens and Lees will surely help and improve him.
Indoor Owl
I posted it the other day, but I also wouldn't mind seeing us playing 5 at the back: Westwood Hunt Lees Loovens Van Aken Reach Have Reach and Hunt with further license to push up the pitch with the extra help at the back, and when Hutchinson is fit you can slot him in the middle and have him advancing further forward. S36 OWL
Give the lad time. He has played half a dozen games in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and has shown he has what it takes to be the real deal , but ffs , give him time to adjust to the pace of the British game
Sgt Wednesday
I think we need to keep playing him, the more experience he gets the better he will become. Outstanding on the ball, positionally ok, needs to work on his decision making (when to stand up or make a challenge). It would also be nice to see him put on a bit of muscle, which will help him against the more physical strikers in the division.

WUGGAMONKEY1
As poor as he has been defensively at times, I think he needs time in that position to build up an understanding with the other defenders - it's just whether CC wants to afford it him. To be fair to him, the left hand side of defence looks more shaky when it's him and Reach. That's not a criticism of Reach or VA - neither seem the most natural defenders but both offer the team other options offensively. Also, they (Reach in particular) isn't afforded a great deal of cover in front of him by the way we set up.

So far that aspect of his game I've been disappointed But that said, there have times where Lees has been looking suspect too in the last 2/3 games, so I think we should avoid jumping to too strong an opinion just yet. I'd say both CB's need to step up in their defensive roles over the next couple of games and prove themselves to be what they're fully capable of being- one of the best pairings in the division For me, Loovens walks back into the back 4 when fit. The lad has ability but not only do we get Loovens back, we also get Tom Lee's back to his best when he plays. He's a massive loss to us Edited October 1, 2017 by ramone
Nick the Owl
When he was bought Carlos advised not to expect too much to soon, now it's clear to see why - he needs time to adjust. But there's no denying he has absolutely bags of potential, exciting prospect.

Best course of action is to have Loovens as third choice and persevere with van Aken as the option to help push us further up the pitch and to progress as our long term replacement for Loovens. In my opinion of course

In my opinion of course I can see your thoughts. At this stage, I'm inclined to go with tried and tested. And 17 clean sheets in each of the last 3 seasons (I think) suggests for that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I think the manager aged will go for that also as, failure this season could see him waving us all goodbye. Loovens is is an excellent captain as well and I think we miss his leadership when he isn't there. Like I say, different horses for different courses but with so much on the line this year, having a young'un at the back just doesn't sit right with me. As much I rate the lad he is suspect defensively.
Adam Reachs left peg
Young and still learning apart from Sheff u game he’s been solid can see him in premiership at some point hopefully with us
bigsheff
Play loovens & lee together again & you will constantly see bannan, jones, lee etc in our own half collecting the ball off of their toes as neither can pass for bobbar. Leave the lad in & let him learn on the job.
kristmace
Still only his 6th game at this level. Still needs to build an understanding with Lees. Loovens and Lees have had years together. This will take time. JVA looks nervous but he's got the skills and is an terrific prospect at 23 years old.
Jon Newsome
Looked shaky last few games but he'll learn from it, can tell he's got some serious quality and he's only young. Wouldn't be against throwing Loovens back in alongside Lees for a spell when he's fit but Van Aken always looking forward for a pass improves the tempo of the team. Ash77
While he bulks up and learns this league he may well be better off in a diamond holding role. May be 1 of best passers in team but not best defender and mistakes are more costly near strikers with nobody behind to clear up behind. Rather have hutch as cb, the mileage is lower and he gets less injuries & bookings
Lionel Fessi
He was poor today, almost gifted Leeds two goals. Can't be too critical due to his age and how new to the league he is but its going to be a steep learning curve for the lad, as mentioned think he would greatly benefit from a more vocal partner at the back, will be good for him when Hutchinson is back.
