I’m guessing these photos were taken in 1966 at the time of the World Cup.

The Leppings Lane end looks much more impressive in its original configuration before the addition of perimeter fences, lateral fences and the ugly roof extension in the 1990s. That said, it’s still a shame the club didn’t stick to the original concept of extending the North Stand design around the whole ground as they redeveloped. I guess it was just too expensive.

must be around the tunnel. Was thinking the stand was too short for it to be the Leppings lane end

Around this area. You can see on the old photo that they’re between the 3rd and 4th pillars of the South Stand roof. That must have been the posh standing area!

I'm only guessing really, but confident

Yes.

that was just to the left of the tunnel (from pitch).

There was a standing 'pen' on each side to which the public had no access.

Entry was therefore via the tunnel itself.

Stop pretending you're too young to know Neil:rolleyes:

This is the World Cup quarter final W.Germany v Uruguay, I was lucky enough to be at the game . It goes to show that the World Cup was not the big draw it is nowadays, just look at all the empty seats.

See page 3 - this topic.

Thanks, that picture is excellent. Those Neon signs on the back of the Kop and the West Stand were fantastic (at least when all the letters were working), and the effect created by the six floodlight pylons was spectacular. When I was very young we lived in the flats at Foxhill and you could see straight down the Upper Don Valley towards the city centre , a view enhanced dramatically when Wednesday had a night match.

Could be the Adobe powerstation, demolished after Greta complained about the cloud they created !

Neepsend power station.   Stopped working in 1976 apparently, a year before that Man U v L**ds semi final took place.

Oddly enough, those two played semi's at Hillsboro in 1965, 1970 and 1977.  I went to the first two.
