So time for a catch up.

Josh has stormed the Challenger, winning in 24h 54m, nearly 5h ahead of 2nd place.

To say it's been tough up there is an understatement... 60 dnfs so far out of 99 starters.

Challenger North is being  led by Simon Roberts who is about to go up to Cross Fell. Luke Roberts is in second a few Km behind in Dufton.

(Not sure if they're related)

And the main event is being led by Damian Hall (Pennine Way fkt holder) and Kim Collison who are going through Lothersdale about 8km ahead of third place.

Sabrina Verjee is leading lady a few km out of Hebden.

Can’t imagine attempting this!

A guy I know who is a very good runner did it a few years ago and posted some on Facebook, it was literally walking in snow in the pitch black.

I completed Challenger in 2018.

DNF'd the Spine Race in 2020.

Am up in the Auchope Refuge Hut from Wednesday night as part of the safety team.

Will have another crack at it in the next few years... hoping I can grab a volunteer lottery place rather than having to pay.

Missed a lot of today's goings on but Kim has dropped out today leaving Damo with a very healthy lead, but this is a race of attrition and nothing is won until you're at Kirk Yetholm.

Sabrina has also had to drop out leaving Debbie Martin-Consini as leading lady.

Sleep strategies will start to come in to play now...

Final figures for the Challenger are 99 starters 35 finishers, 64 dnfs.

Last finisher was Andrew Gleeson who finished after the cut off but was awarded a 95 minute time bonus for going to the aid of a fellow competitor a few miles before the finish, effectively sacrificing his own race to help someone.

So on a 286 mile race, you haven't won anything until you finish, and this has been illustrated again today.

Long time leader Damian Hall had dropped a little way after Alston CP... 180 miles into the race.

He has apparently been struggling with a groin injury, that while not slowing him up has obviously just become too much of an issue either in terms of pain or long term damage.

A great performance by the FKT holder despite the sad ending.

In addition Tiaan has also dropped from the race while in third.

So this leaves Spanish  2013 winner Eugeni Rosello in the lead. He's currently at Alston CP, and is probably just hearing he is now the leader.

2 time winner Eoin Keith is in second, just about to summit Cross Fell, with James Leavesley and Douglas Zinis not far behind.

I forgot to say Simon Roberts completed an inaugural victory in the Spine Challenger North Race.

Another day, another big change with Eugeni the latest to pull out while leading the race.

Gutted for him as he really is a hugely popular member of the 'Spine family.'

So 2 time winner Eoin Keith now leads the race, and is resting at Bellingham CP.

Just the Cheviots stand between him and a third victory that would put him alongside Pavel Paloncy.

Of course it's never 'just' the Cheviots.

Leavesley and Zinis remain in second/third around 10km behind Eoin.

I'm about to set off to Hut 2 up there.

Hopefully will be in position to see Eoin go through in the early hours.

Just back at Mounthooly Bunkhouse after a day up Hut 2.

On call tonight if owt happens but otherwise back to the hut tomorrow morning more or less until the finish Sat night/Sun morning.

Had Debbie come through the hut on her way to winning leading lady today which was great.

Eoin came in last night as overall winner.
